Rat-32 3BC AW as Persia

I'm getting errors trying to load that save.

tried this save, this on also gives errors...do you still have a proper auto save?

Ok, I will look into it and see what I can do to get a save that can be read.

Note that this is my new computer and I have had troubles reading other peoples saves on it, but this is the first time it has been a problem in reverse.

[Edit: If I can read it on my older computer I am guessing it will be ok, so that will be my goal]

Well I couldn't get it to work so I used seedbeast to give the same start and played it on my old computer. I had the civs random which may have led to a different civ nearby (I think you have to specify the civs to get exactly the same).

This time we didn't get as lucky and we met Carthage early so less exploration.

Here is the new picture:

Test this save - it should work.

The save works, at least on my Computer.

Good Hunting!!

Carthage? As is this wasn't already difficult. (Got it.)

Ten quick turns. Carthage has not yet arrived with reinforcements. We now have three spearmen, with a settler due. Worker mined and roaded BG, waiting for orders. I expect we want to build on the near side of the game for best defense. Two spearmen are already fortified, and the worker can begin chopping for a barracks.

two days have passed and nobody picked it up...need to :bump: this

I got it, just haven't played yet. Nothing like sports to get you distracted. Will get it done this afternoon.

I am finished, have settled Arbela, hopefully where it should be. I thought 2 tiles was 2 close and settled at CxxxC to capture the 3 Game and a Sugar. Here is my turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-Flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Open the save, look things over.
Begin road to new city, which I think is ok on the other side of the 3 Game. ICS and only building 3 cities seems kind of dumb.

Civilian units:
Workers 1

Military units:
Spearmen 3
Warrior 1

Press enter=>

IBT: Carthage warrior threatens our worker.
Pasargadae Settler=Spear.

Turn 1, 2510 BC: Cover the worker with one spear, other guards the settler.
Lower lux to 0%, raise tech to 50%. Gets IW to 14 turns at -1 gpt, sustainable for 2 more turns.

IBT: Carthage warrior moves in.

Turn 2, 2470 BC: Pull Spear out to guard the Game, raise lux to 10%, lower tech to 50%. Change Spear build to Warrior.

IBT: Both Carthage Warriors move in, 2 more show up.

Turn 3, 2430 BC: Taking a risk, I use both Warriors to attack, first wins clean, second loses 2hp. Move Spear in to be an MP.

IBT: Both Carthage Warriors move in.

Turn 4, 2390 BC: Move both Warriors in, Spear back to guard the Game.
Arbela founded=>Barracks.
Spot brown borders 2 tiles north and another Warrior. Raise tech to 90%. Iron Working in 8 at 0 gpt. Hopefully we can avoid disbandment, it is cutting it close.

IBT: It was 2 Warriors north. They move in also. The first pair are moving toward our mined Game.

Turn 5, 2350 BC: MM to get Spear built next turn.

IBT: I guess they decided to turn and attack Arbela, 1 Warrior dies, doing no damage. Next turn could be interesting if all 3 attack.
Pasargadae Spear=>Spear.

Turn 6, 2310 BC: Move another spear towards Arbela.

IBT: 1 Warrior attacks and wins at Arbela, 2nd dies and the lone Spear promotes

Turn 7, 2270 BC: Begin another chop towards Arbela Barracks.

IBT: Elite Spear loses 3 hp to warrior, what a bunch of crap!
Other Warrior steps away to heal.

Turn 8, 2230 BC:

IBT: Pasargadae Spear=>Spear.

Turn 9, 2190 BC: Move a warrior out to scout south, maybe we get lucky.

IBT:

Turn 10, 2150 BC: That’s it. Hope I haven’t screwed up too badly.

Civilian units:
Workers 1

Military units:
Warriors 2
Spearmen 4

Units: 7, Allowed: 8, Support cost: 0 gpt

Research
Iron Working, 2 turns at 0 gpt

The save:

got it, let's hope we get iron, otherwise this will be tough.

Pre-Turn
the problem I can see for our cities is the lack of fresh water with all those plains

1. 2110BC
move to road the games next
we surely do not need more plains by cutting forest

IT we get IW but have NO iron
start WC due to this

2.2070BC
send a spear for recon

3. 1990BC
maybe it isn't that smart to go for recon as I spot green borders

4. 1950BC
check Carthaginian city, mercs are a little tough to beat with only archers I guess

5. 1910BC
start a worker and walls

6. 1870BC
unit support is biting us as I need to reduce science

7. 1830BC
zzz

8. 1790BC
decide to get one city on wealth

9. 1750BC
emphasize commerce so we can finally get archers

10. 1725BC
zzz

Shall we build a third city to overcome unit support? However, I think we will need quite a few archers anyway to defeat those mercs

request swap
won't have time to play today or tomorrow.

horses might be the better option here, but we cannot wait until we have researched them. anyway, there's no guarantee we even have horses. archer stack seems to be our only hope here.

3rd city would help with support, but don't see a spot worthy of a city.

Maybe, we could go for horses after WC? It looks as if it would take quite a while before getting iron.

Elephantinum, do you want to swap with el_filet?
