Rat-32 3BC AW as Persia

that's fine

i got it

will probably set up elephantium for attack. hope we can afford to pay for the 6 archers or so necessary to kill the expected two NM.

Turn 3:
pasargaede grows, take arbela off wealth and up lux
WC still next turn
TheRat carefully sent back our spear and i overlook the green corner in the woods :wallbash:

Turn 4:
WC->wheel (in 26@0 gpt)
set science to minimum, 50 turns
pasar: archer->archer
aztecs on f4, declare.

Turn 5:
another green boarder
utica has grown

Turn 6:
move spear to pillage and get him exposed

IBT:
lose the spear

Turn 7:
leave both cities on archers

Turn 8:
-

IBT:
carthagian units move toward arbela

Turn 9:
pasargadae: archer->archer
our income is now 0 gpt with 14g left. maybe i should have disposed the warror, but want some mp left.

Turn 10:
kill the two archers, lose 2 HP each time
utica is size 1 again
we run a deficit of 1gpt after upping lux to 30%

Notes:
2 archers injured, 2 ready in arbela and 2 due next turn (new tile was set to forest. with 10 in already we can leave it for another turn)
moving the worker up to build a road after our stack seems like a mistake now
met the aztecs, our economy is in horrible shape and the kill ratio is 2-1. i think going to bed early would have been the better choice tonight.

The early pop rushes by the AI are maddening and might be too much at higher levels. On top of that, we have crappy unis versus a monster UU...not easy

Persia without Iron drops to a middle-tier civ. This may be nearly impossible to extremely difficult to win with the variant we are doing. If we do Persia again, we need verified Iron within range. I'm not ready to concede, but if we do, whether its Persia or anyone else, we need to be able to build the UU.

IT:

Carthaginian archer comes out of the fog.

IT:

Pasargadae: Archers

IT:

Carthage Numidian merc comes out of the fog and kills one of our Archers.
Aztec archer suicides vs. our spear.
Arbela: Spear->Spear

Turn 10 (1225 BC):

Lose two Archers killing that Numidian merc :(
Disband two Warriors in Arblea to free up some gpt and speed the production of the current Spear (the town is at 8spt, so this drops production from 3 turns to 2).

Hmm, I'm on Turn 71 somehow :confused:

maybe going after the Aztecs should be better as they have no strong UU?

Greebley is up, this game might not be feasible again without iron...we'll see

with utica gone i think we should found our 3rd city. as possible site i see ex-utica, river+coast near furs or on river between cattle and wheat, which would be my favourite choice unless you expect to conquer the aztec city nearby. from past experience it probably won't grow/expand in a decent timeframe.

I played my turns.

I mostly worked on getting the settler and settling our 3rd city. I felt it vital.

Killed about 8 enemy units and lost an Archer or two. For the Num Merc, I let him attack us since the odds were much better (i.e. ignore them unless they are in cities or going to pillage something important the AI often treats them as offensive units it seems).

Note that the spot wasn't perfect, but it was as good as we could defend. We also may get a river advantage for many attacks.

I think the next player should change production in the new city to walls to get them before barracks.

Also I would prioritize getting water back to our cities. Cut the forest and start the water back.

I think we need more workers to get irrigation.
