When you load old saved games and save them, the game also saves the new rules into the save games. So the patch affects any saved games you load immediately... :)

I gave it an 8. I'd rate it a 10 if multi.sav was still in there. I'm seriously bummed this ability was removed. There's really no reason to deny people the ability to cheat in a single-player game. It's not like there is any impact on any real person. :/

And don't worry guys, if I ever participated in GOTM, I wouldn't use it. :)

Two things that lower my rating: bombards should be able to sink ships, destroy units in a regular game as default. This is true for real life, it should be true in the game. This is a minor annoyance.
Well, as numerous discussions have proved, being able to destroy (land) units is highly questionable when you consider real life - and if planes could sink ships, then ships should be able to fire back at the planes as well. So personally I'll let this editor option stand as default.

My main cause for concern seems to be limited to me, from what I've read here. I am getting lag problems, especially when I am using the bombard function. When I am bombing, the unit will often 'lag' for up to 2 minutes after the move is made.

I am running a P3 800 with 394 MB, Win 98, and a nVidia GeForce 2 200MX in case anyone wants to know. Maybe its a config issue?? (This config seems to have had similar issues with previous patches)
It seems this is something limited to you. I have a comparable pc, and seen none of this (I've used bombardment).

Not having patched before I am unsure if 1.21 includes all improvements and modifications from the old patches. In other words do I need to install old patches first and work my way up to 1.21
thanks

I wouldn't know if the patch is any good, or not. The game won't let me play for more than a few minutes before crashing. I had the occasional crash with 1.17, but nothing like this. It crashes me right out of the game. One of the last times, it crashed so bad that I had to re-install. Anyone else had this problem????

Same thing here. Running Win XP.

It seems to crash when moving AI around.

Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not reinstall if I can help it.

Emperor, large random map, didn't see any real difference. AI still has stealth bombers all round as I am sailing about in galleons - in about 1500ish!

After winning 3 games on monarch I moved up to emperor - maybe I need to go back down again!

A thing for next patch (unless I am missing something)- when the AI talks to me and, for example, offeres me a milltary alliance or something. I cannot check anything before saying yes or no - if I am offered an aliance vs the persians, say, I would like to be able to check inteligence about the persians so I had an idea what I would be getting into. At the moment unless I can remember anything I have to say yes or no with no chance to check anything.

Tech rates outrageous. I usually have a lead but modern armor? 1400, thats ridiculous.

abla- amen... itd be nice to have some background on whom im allying with. The idiot "so and so is a known liar and a cheat.....blahblahblah." like any1 would trust the advisors judgement.Just call me silly but the only time the AI comes looking for a MPP is when they are getting their a$$e$ handed to them by some1.

What would you like to check? Currently, if you click (or double click?) on the advisor's face, during negotiations, it will open up his display. I guess that would be the foreign advisor. Anyway, you can then click on the other advisors to check everything they can tell you. Leave the advisor screen and you are back in negotiations.

If someone could hand me a link to the patch d'load site I would be gratetful

I haven't seen it mentioned here but armies are now able to attack multiple times. I just took out a Japanese city with 2 riflemen defenders in one turn with an army of 3 cavalry. I assume I could have attacked three times in a turn - once for each horsey. This seems to change strategy significantly. An army of 4 modern armors would, I assume, be able to make 8 attacks per turn now. I haven't gotten that far yet in my first 1.21 game.

The graphics are improved and the AI seems more devious. Twice I was sneak attacked with no warning. I don't think this ever happened before.

I don't like the new J command since I like to stack offensive units in a mountain or hill with the Y command until they are needed. Having to wake them all up individually to J them into action is a pain. On the other hand, the mass upgrade (Shift-U) now leaves the upgraded units fortified which is nice.

Overall, it looks like a great upgrade my first time through. I'm just playing at regent while I get the hang of the changes.

Patch 1.17f gave armies the "blitz" ability, allowing multiple attacks. I'm not exactly sure how blitz works, but I think the number of attacks is limited to the movement rate of the slowest unit in the army.

Giving it a nine, I considered the following:

- editor improved :) , but no scenario options that I could see
- AI used more time on "their" civs than before...thus making the waiting a bit longer, and since I'm playing chieftain & warlord level more on an occasional basis, I was a bit surprised (I would have expected that to occur on other levels...)

Haven't tried out the patch for more than 1 1/2 game yet, so I can't give it a 10. I do believe that its better than the last one, but 10 needs a thourough testing.

Perhaps the poll was a bit premature, but feedback on the thread has been quite useful. :goodjob: I now know more about how the patch has affected gameplay, than I would have if I was supposed to discover all changes myself (and YES! I have read the readme...)

It's possible that I never had a cavalry army in 1.17 so I can't say things have changed. I do know that a tank army could only attack once and modern army twice. I'll have a tank army in a few turns on my current game so I'm anxious to see if there is any change. I don't recall the "blitz" ability being mentioned for 1.17 and have no idea what it means. Can somebody explain?

If you have 0 gold and negative earnings for your turn nothing will happen to penalize you. The patch lets you run 100% science and continuous budget deficits with no money.

Can't actually comment on the patch because I'm sitting in Dinorius R's office 10,000 miles (give or take) from home. However, from the readme and comments on this and other threads, I would expect to give it a 9. It addresses my biggest issue with 1.17 (which I kept playing despite the occasional urge to go back to 1.16) and adds a few of my biggest like to haves, especially in the editor. For the record, I didn't vote (yet).
