Trading drives me insane!
I've played a few games now. (As usual, lost a few, but we don't need to go there.)
In my current game, I am some how the top Civ. I have noticed that when trading for techs, any time I put a tech for resources and/or luxuries on the table, the advisor says they will 'never go for that.' Doesn't matter if I start for a tech for tech and I'm close to a deal... and to sweeten the deal I throw in a lux/resource... the deal is panned.
In this game, as usual, I am trailing a few tech advances. All the AI (almost all... unless they are practically bankrupt) have the same techs but they won't consider a trade for 2 resources plus 2 luxuries and all my gold... and my World Map.
Funny thing is I can sometimes pick up some "older" techs for a few hundred gold... but if I offer coal or rubber they want to show me the door. And the AI needs these resources desperately!
But a fair deal to the AI is still to offer me their worthless World Map for a tech they don't have!![]()
If there are wars happening all over the place, then the AI get very suspicious about trading for anything whereby they have to wait 20 turn to get full value. You used to be able to trade for lotsof tech and in return offer coal, iron, dyes etc. Then you declare war .... and in effect you get the techs for free. THe patches stopped this. The patches also prevented the human player from becoming tech trader (at Emperor and Deity anyway). It doesn't matter how much cash you offer for the "latest" tech, you'll never get it ... even if you have a gigantic army at the door to the final city of a defeated empire ... often even then, they won't give up the tech!!!!
