Some clarification of bits and pieces, if I might. To inturrupt some deserved
ing.
First, apologies for the half-assed handoff. I got inturrupted in the middle of my plan, such as it was, and had to quit right then. In the interest of keeping the game going, I decided better to post than to hang on to it until who knows when. Normally I know better. Normally I would have the foresight to actually, you know, save before the peace deal, too. Some days, alas, involve less
than others.
The army quit because it was at, I believe, 7 hp, something to that effect. Having just lost an army like that in similar circumstances not long ago, you could say I was a bit leery. The idea, I believe, was to use it later in the round if needed. As it happens, that didn't work.
I had, I believe, two keshiks in a city RIGHT THERE. Yeah, non-optimal. I think I'd still have done it in reterospect, though. While I had forgotten about muskets, the total non-appearance of any Celtic units AT ALL at that point had me figuring any and every Celtic unit available was up killing Vikes. So far as I can tell, I judged that one right - total Celt units appearing on my turn: 1 pike, 1 spear, both post-death of Vikes.
While right in general about my making of peace, which in reterospect we didn't need to do (there was a plan there, honestly, somewhere), I note:
Actually, so long as we're not blazingly stupid about keeping Verulamium, they HAVEN'T GOT ANY saltpeter, because we took the city. So unless they've got some more saltpeter somewhere, or other resources I'm totally spacing on, they're toast, to pick off at our leisure.
This, incidentally, was good stuff.
Now, before I wander off to commit seppuku, a couple of assorted ponderances:
We need to back up Verulamium with some troops, as I recall. We could stand to pillage the saltpeter, too, just in case it flips. But so long as we're careful about it, the Celts are, like I said, basically screwed.
That having been said, I'm not sure what I was doing with that peace treaty. The last turn or so of mine was pretty rushed. I'm pretty sure that elite musket just blew my sense of composure all to hell and I lost it, because our military IS pretty beat up right now, and if the Celts have a military, it IS somewhere. Better safe than sorry. I am sort of of the mind we could have kept going, though. OTOH, this may be a good spot to pause and do any building of actual buildings we need to do, and I believe there is some to be done.
And the whole "Give Peace A Chance" crowd in our cities, I might add. Anyway. In 20 turns, we can easily squash the Celts like the bugs they are.
OTOH, the Greeks and Carthaginians are going to be a pretty fierce sort of harsh. I believe it's the Greeks what are building Magellan's right now. By the time we get Cav, I fully expect they will have rifles. By the time we get to Carthage, it's probably going to look more like Infantry. That'll be sort of fun, and needs to get thought about some.
At any rate, some ritual
ing to the next leader in apology for the screwy handoff.

- The army quit?????? It only lost 1 hp! Why on earth didn't it continue and use its blitz ability??

Diverting from your very choice and juicy main objective to swallow Burgidala town was... non-optimal. Again, the expectation that knights and/or muskets could show up at any time calls for 'focus'.

- We *JUST * cut off their salt, now they can reconnect it and build many muskets in 20 turns. K's vs muskets will make K's vs pikes look like utter child's play.

- Show that city-attack technique matters, a LOT
