RBC5 - Feudalistic Mongols OPEN SG C3C 1.12

Some clarification of bits and pieces, if I might. To inturrupt some deserved :spank:ing.

First, apologies for the half-assed handoff. I got inturrupted in the middle of my plan, such as it was, and had to quit right then. In the interest of keeping the game going, I decided better to post than to hang on to it until who knows when. Normally I know better. Normally I would have the foresight to actually, you know, save before the peace deal, too. Some days, alas, involve less :smoke: than others.

- The army quit?????? It only lost 1 hp! Why on earth didn't it continue and use its blitz ability??

The army quit because it was at, I believe, 7 hp, something to that effect. Having just lost an army like that in similar circumstances not long ago, you could say I was a bit leery. The idea, I believe, was to use it later in the round if needed. As it happens, that didn't work.

Diverting from your very choice and juicy main objective to swallow Burgidala town was... non-optimal. Again, the expectation that knights and/or muskets could show up at any time calls for 'focus'.

I had, I believe, two keshiks in a city RIGHT THERE. Yeah, non-optimal. I think I'd still have done it in reterospect, though. While I had forgotten about muskets, the total non-appearance of any Celtic units AT ALL at that point had me figuring any and every Celtic unit available was up killing Vikes. So far as I can tell, I judged that one right - total Celt units appearing on my turn: 1 pike, 1 spear, both post-death of Vikes.

While right in general about my making of peace, which in reterospect we didn't need to do (there was a plan there, honestly, somewhere), I note:

- We *JUST * cut off their salt, now they can reconnect it and build many muskets in 20 turns. K's vs muskets will make K's vs pikes look like utter child's play.

Actually, so long as we're not blazingly stupid about keeping Verulamium, they HAVEN'T GOT ANY saltpeter, because we took the city. So unless they've got some more saltpeter somewhere, or other resources I'm totally spacing on, they're toast, to pick off at our leisure.

- Show that city-attack technique matters, a LOT

This, incidentally, was good stuff.

Now, before I wander off to commit seppuku, a couple of assorted ponderances:

We need to back up Verulamium with some troops, as I recall. We could stand to pillage the saltpeter, too, just in case it flips. But so long as we're careful about it, the Celts are, like I said, basically screwed.

That having been said, I'm not sure what I was doing with that peace treaty. The last turn or so of mine was pretty rushed. I'm pretty sure that elite musket just blew my sense of composure all to hell and I lost it, because our military IS pretty beat up right now, and if the Celts have a military, it IS somewhere. Better safe than sorry. I am sort of of the mind we could have kept going, though. OTOH, this may be a good spot to pause and do any building of actual buildings we need to do, and I believe there is some to be done.

And the whole "Give Peace A Chance" crowd in our cities, I might add. Anyway. In 20 turns, we can easily squash the Celts like the bugs they are.

OTOH, the Greeks and Carthaginians are going to be a pretty fierce sort of harsh. I believe it's the Greeks what are building Magellan's right now. By the time we get Cav, I fully expect they will have rifles. By the time we get to Carthage, it's probably going to look more like Infantry. That'll be sort of fun, and needs to get thought about some.

At any rate, some ritual :worship:ing to the next leader in apology for the screwy handoff.

Well said Dwip! I know what you mean not wanting to lose armies, especially in a SG. Good call on the lack of reinforcements coming.

I don't even want to THINK about the Greeks and Carthage either, sheesh. We shall get to see if we can take real advantage of Feudalism. Unless the tech floats into our pockets, anything past the next techs of Chem, Metallurgy and Mil Trad is something we not need concern ourself with. If it goes long enough, Steam power purely for rails and extra bonuses would be the other useful thing. If we aggressively fill in land and can support 200 Cavalry and literally build NOTHING but them for 20-40 turns, I don't care what those two big lookin' foes have, we're going to eat them for lunch. I would consider it a distraction to build anything but settlers, workers, rax, muskets and Keshiks/Cav from now through end of game (apart from whatever Courthouse/temple/marketplace are required with our new FP situation) With Mil Trad in hand, being able to save money and use it for lux slider and buying alliances, rather than pricey techs, will help a lot. Whichever of those two big dogs we go after, for SURE we'll want to pay what it takes to bring the other dog into the war against them. Probably hire the #2 dog and join forces to attack the #1 guy, then when both are gassed, take peace and concessions and sign on with the former #1 guy against the former #2 :hammer:

Who will step up to close out our GA and to consolidate our gains and get some muskets built?!

Charis

GOT IT!

[hopes to avoid a Charis :whip: ]

RBC5: Ridgela-Khan takes over the golden aged Mongols! We are fresh off a war with the despicable Celts! We have squashed them under our hooves!

It is our GA and we have 6 cities rioting???? Bah! :hammer:

We needs buildings fer our lands! Many builds changed.

370AD (0) We have saltpeter! The Greeks and Carthage doesn’t. It, with 39gpt goes to Carthage for Chemistry. Gonna move us to CAVS if possible. Can’t twofer it and we won’t be able to wait for Celts to get a twoferable tech.

Start Min-Sci on printing press. We will acquire all other techs before this.

IT Epic completes.

380AD (1) Bah, Burdigala flips back to the stinkin Celts!

Doublewhip Alesia for a temple.

390AD (2) Carthage has metal and Greece has PP. Even 144gpt and 1191 gold isn’t enough to afford metal.

IT Carthage sneak attacks our undefended Celt-bounty. I could not get a spear there to defend it.

HA! We can wail on you for your metaurgy!

400AD (3) I abandon 3 of the northern celt towns. They were undefendable. Move our units towards Carthage. Whip a rax in Cataractonium.

IT Renew peace with Shaka.

410AD (4) Kill an approaching Numer.

IT Greece declares on the Zulu.

420AD (5) Attack on Gades:

4/4 Kesh kills 3/3 NuMe.
4/4 Kesh kills 3/3 NuMe.
5/5 Horse kills 3/3 LB and Gades is OURS! Get a worker too.

Move units towards Rusicade for strike next turn.

430AD (6) Attack on Rusicade

4/4 Kesh dies to 3/3 NuMe.
Army kills 3/3 NuMe.
Army kills 1/3 NuMe.
Army kills LB and Rucicade is ours!

IT Carthage and the Zulus MA against us.

440AD (7) Attack on Nora

4/4 Kesh retreats to 3/3 NuMe
4/4 Kesh kills 3/3 NuMe
Army kills 2/3 NuMe and Nora is ours!

We get a Catapulult. Nora has Iron. The Cat hits an approaching knight.

IT lose 2 Keshes to knight counters.

450AD (8) 4/4 Kesh kills ¾ knight.
Army kills knight on hill, but is now 6/13.
4/4 Kesh kills 2/3 knight

IT The army survives.

460AD (9) Healing turn.

IT Win 2 and lose 2 to Knight counters. Unfortunately, CharisKhan fell in the attacks.

470AD (10) 4/4 Kesh kills NuMe.
4/4 Kesh kills 3/3 knight.
4/4 Kesh kills 3/3 knight.
4/5 Kesh kills 1/3 knight.

Leave off here. Army is healing. We are trading units with the stinking Carthaginians. They won’t pay for peace despite our :whip: them. It must be their MA with the Zulus. Good luck, and keep the :hammer: down!

Some comments for the future. I was playing this as if it were a MOW game. I did not make any slow units. We do need muskets on our borders. my :smoke:

I would attack Saldea and Carthago Novo next. You will also notice a couple of riders in Zulu territory. They are heading towards the gem city, Ngome. This capture would dove-tail in well with taking Saldea and Carthago Novo.

When the captured Carthage towns stop resisting, whip a temple. Even it it is triple whipped. Expanded borders will help immensely for defense (Nora) and will bring in another lux (Rusadir).

Good luck!

There is a city hiding in fog between Nora and Carthage that looks to have ivory. I don't know if you control any ivory yet but it would be nice to have and that city is 1st ring for Carthage. Major pain for them.

Upon arrival back in the Palace, I call for a report from all fiefdoms.
Mandalgovi is at size 6 and does not need a market. At 10s per turn, it will produce muskets.
Our economy is strong enough to not need another market in a size six city.

I ask the science advisor why we are researching Printing Press when that will not help us get to Military Tradition? Our min science is transferred to Metallurgy.

Our military advisor says we have two Keshiks heading to pillage the Zulu gems. Our army is our newly conquered land but needs to heal and regroup.

Our Foreign advisor informs us Hannibal will stop his aggression against us for the small sum on 80g. He also mentioned they have Metallurgy but we are unable to get it at this time.

All else looks good.

IBT Lose a 1hp Keshik near Nora but defeats one knight first. A pillager loses to an archer jumping out of Intombe. Our GA ends and thinking it was already over, (not in info box) Ta-Tu riots...make sure they are the only one. Eight reg knights and a vet ancient cavalry show up outside of Nora.

480AD-1 Kazan market-->courthouse (first ring loosing 2S) Hovd market-->settler (5s) Darhan K-->courthouse (9s) Nalayh barrack-->courthouse (corrupt)
Clean up some units at Nora:
vet v reg L 1-4
vet v 2/3 reg W 2-2
3/4vet v 2/3reg W 2-2
elite v reg W 3-1
10/14 army v reg W 3-1
We have more units in the town than I can see but all but 2 are hurt.
Down to 60g for peace. I’m going to hang out for another turn or two to see what shows up.
Start the MP shuffle to get the 3MP in size 6+ cities and 1-2 in smaller towns.
Treasury at 2772 max science at 90% for -86GPT...Metallurgy in 13. <---First hint of an odd odor coming from the throne room.

IBT  We lost Nora, 40g, our army, 2 elite Keshiks, 4 vets and a catapult! One knight took all 9hp from our army. I should have taken the peace at 60g. :wallbash: Last pillager defeats an archer from Ngome but down to 1hp.

490AD-2 Our best defender is the one musket and 3 crusaders a long walk from Rusaddir. I take the peace for WM and 116g. Change production of Keshiks to musketmen. It looks like Hannibal has not connected his saltpeter. Swap all possible barrack towns to musketmen. I'll need to wait 2 turns for 2 projects to complete then I’ll sell him the salt for all he has. Pillage the gems by Ngome.

IBT Greeks offer a deal on Literature that I pass on. I once heard someone say, “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.” Richborough flips back to the Celts. No wonder…the culture advisor has been MIA from all cabinet meetings.

500AD-3 Resistance has ended so I whip Rusaddir and Gades to 1 pop. Cut science after wasting about 350g. Cancel the ROP with Greece we are paying 20GPT and horses for 3 turns late<---A strange color of fog is creeping out of the throne room now.

510AD-4 Catactonium completes walls, Batshireet completes a courthouse and Ratae Coritanorum completes a barrack. All are now on muskets. Shaka gives us 2 slaves for 60g at the peace table. Sell our souls to Carthage for 20 turns. The get salt and we get Metallurgy, WM, 579g and 25GPT.Hindsight is 20/20 as they also have Military Tradition. We just sped up his cavalry production. :spank: Sell Alex our new WM for his and 42g. And I did not see we had 2 sources of salt. (The cloud thickens.) Moved production back to courthouses and workers. MT in 13 turns at max.

IBT Karakorum decides to riot in an effort to partake in whatever the Texan is smoking.

520AD-5 Workers work.

IBT Verulamium revolts back to Celtic control. Hovd riots because that was our second source of salt.

530AD-6 I am forced to share my intoxicants with the populace and have to bump the lux back up to 10%.

540AD-7 Muskets completing and Keshik started again with no salt.

IBT Carthage and Greece join up against the Zulu.

550AD-8 Workers work and MP shuffle. Muskets are heading to the North border and Crusaders are spreading on the east front. Spears and warriors are heading back south and west.

560AD-9 Alex gets ROP, WM and 900g for WM and MT. Kill all the scientists. Ereen and Erdenet still need MP's.

570-10 We get the Military Academy message. Add the penthouse to the palace. I have been chopping the forests around Gades to work on the temple. These workers are now heading to help out in Rusaddir. There is a stack of workers ready to move near Daland. Muskets heading north to free up Keshiks in Rusaddir and Gades. Then they need to ride over and retake Verulamium first and the rest of the Celts while our cavalry are training.

With Shaka down to 3 cities, we may want to sign up Alex against Carthage when they die instead of taking the :hammer: to th eCelts. Alex’s army will be on the Carthage border at that time. That is unless we want to honor the deal with Hannibal another 14 turns. If we do, we will not need to take back Verulamium immediately.

With the WM, we can see the nice continent completely taken by Carthage out in the ocean.

The Texan rides off into the sunset as the palace is aired out for the next leader.

The Game

I have to take the blame for that tough turn. If muskets had come along, we would have been able to defend better. I also forgot to point out that we should make peace with the Zulus first before peace with Carthage. They had an MA and forcing them to break their word made the cost of peace more expensive for the first peace. I forgot to make a note that we should have given the Zulus peace, even kicking in a tech. We could have then gotten a nice discount on metallurgy. More :smoke: from Ridgelakahn.

I would go after the Celts again. They aren't as strong as Carthage or Greece. Plus, they have OUR lands! :hammer:

I did not expect that many knights beyond our line of sight. At the end of that first turn, only 4 units were visible and 2 were down a hp. The Army losing all 9hp against one knight really hurt.
The Zulus were not talking to me until the turn I made peace with them. We would have lost the other 2 towns if I tried to hold out for Shaka to give in first.

Good points, 6thGen. You made the right calls. Still my :smoke: for not bringing muskets. I should have double-checked the game concept instead of thinking about the Hittite 3-man chariot game that Charis started.

I was surprised to read your report and see that many come at once. It had been a trickle up until that point.

Back at the bar, a distraught looking private asked one of the older seargeants from another platoon if he had heard the news about the war. He got back a blank stare that he couldn't decipher as "hmmm, no, what's up" or "of course I did, why do you think I'm in this bar?" Nervously, the private continued...

"Sarge, we lost our army, our beachhead city, and a company of front line troops.

"All to save 60g." "I mean, that's a huge percentage of our national reserves of 2600. Besides, we had to pay the Greeks that 60g."

"Then news of this reached Richborough, and the news so inspired the peasant Celts there, they revolted. Our response was... to give the strongest nation on the planet on the verge of Military Tradition a supply of saltpeter. (And now we have none for ourselves) Then a 20 turn hard-goods deal with a civ that will not last 20 turns. Oh, and did you know Carthage has a second mini-continent out in the ocean. In the end the people were so... pleased they added onto the palace of this king!"

(At this pont the seargeant is biting in lip but staying stoic)

"I guess it was bad luck to see such a strong response, eh sarge"

"Son, where was that 'beachhead'?" No response from the young private. "Within easy riding distance from the capital and home core of the strongest army on the planet. They weren't going to send us a basket of daisies, now were they?"

"I suppose it's probably best to signup with the Greeks against Carthage and go back on our word about the peace deal," chimed in the private thoughtfully.

The seargeant shifted uncomfortably in his chair. There was much he wanted to say, but really, there was nothing to say. "Son, if we lose our reputation, what do we have left? Yes, that was a bitter defeat, and ahead of us is a grueling road, but some days you get lemonade, and some days you get lemons. We're the Mongols, and we have the finest Feudalistic government ever seen in history. There's nothing that's going to stand in our way over the long haul, and if we stick together as a nation, and persevere, victory shall be ours.

The seargeant raised his glass and toasted all our recent leaders, told the private to stop his whining, and turned back to the shadows and dreamed of days of glory yet to come.

EDIT - Shortly thereafter, a group of darkly dressed men came to his table about the prospect of his overseeing a logistical military operation. He was overheard to say "Got it"

Charis

PS > I ask the science advisor why we are researching Printing Press
> when that will not help us get to Military Tradition? Our min

Because we absolutely don't want to wait 50 turns for Metallurgy on the path to cav. Any min sci on M'lurgy is money down a hole. PP we can wait for, and sets up min sci to Democracy. Shutting off even min sci is another option. Max sci as you did eventually for Metallurgy was a fine choice too, and with over 2.5K in the bank, a steal attempt may have been the best choice (but not with our luck that round :P )

Actually... the sarge says just two words, then returns to the pub. "Celts." "Guinness."

Where to start? Diplomacy I suppose. With Greeks and Carthage in alliance, there will
be no getting Greeks to fight them until the Zulu have left the planet (taking our
rep with them) Military? Our army and mounds of Kesheks are gone, and we're even weak
compared to Celts, who are about two levels of power behind Carthage. We're also about
40 units below what we can support.

Since we have an FP in Ta-Tu, I'll be playing this turn in v1.15 and encourage anyone
who has it installed to do so. The nice thing is that the save file is compatible
between 1.12/1.13/1.15 so if anyone has to stick with an older one tis ok.

The game goal is victory in the Cav era, distinctly before Hospitals, so we should
not need ANY cathedrals, and should focus heaviliy on military production, optimizing
our cities (courts where needed), a few temples at the borders where we're at flip
risk, and not much else.

Let's look at the cities. Holy smokes, Ulaanbaatar is sucking up all available food from
the capital, which now languishes at 19spt working on Keshiks. Actually, the problem is
Richborough's flip, as it steals about the only grass supply for Ulaanbaatar.
The latter is working on a cathedral (?) despite no happiness problems.
Temujin Charis goes through the cities and adjust the orders: no cathedrals,
and looks for poprush whip opportunities, especially in those stuck at size 6.
Another type of odd build is a temple in a landlocked size 6 city fully inside our own
borders that will NEVER need one (e.g. Tsetserleg). We've only got 19 workers
for 31 cities, and since we're NOT allowed aqueducts, let's skim some off size 6'ers.
Ulaanbaatar has 140 shields dumped into a cathedral it will never need, and no
good swaps, so it goes on Palace Prebuild if a wonder chance pops up.

Tech wise... ah yes we DO have Mil tradition, but the Carthaginians are using
our salt to make cav. Oh tay!!

[0] 570AD - We're not at war, and nothing coming with big dogs for 14 turns. Let's
prepare to hit the Celts and remove the flip pressure and get back some land.
Tolosa, Richborough, Burgidala are our targets - perhaps already too much given
our meager offensive forces. Actually, Verulanium has our salt, the path to cav,
so that's top target.

[1] 580AD - Movin' around.
[2] 590 - More.
IBT Now THAT was fast. The rampaging Carthaginians have wiped out the Zulu!

[3] 600 - We can get Education for Chem from Celts for cold cash. That would
open up two techs, so seems good. Celts have no horses OR iron, btw
Gah! Richborough just his size 7 now. War is declared honorably. Kesh beats spear
at Richy. Crusader moves to mtn over Entremont. Spear guard???

Our big stack of Keshik is ready to assault Verulamium. Reg musket on top.
That's it??????? The city, and saltpeter, are ours (again) !
That lets the Kesh's go after Burdigala. 1, 2, 3 spears, another showing. Last Kesh...
redlines and wins. Yet another spear? One more Kesh in Ratae comes, and it promotes
and takes the city. Razing would be an option except I have no intention of letting
Entremont live to flip it back. We whip Lugdunum, Russadir, Ereen for temples.
IBT Absolutely nothing. Brennus has lost his will to fight the Mongol horde!

[4] 610 - Almost a dozen cav are started. It's nice to have 2.5K gold on hand, to upgrade
the Kesh we do have. Lose a Crusader at Rich, then two Kesh beat the spear and
longbow and the city is ours (rax and granary intact) Not much other action, as
our pikes and Kesh head to rax to upgrade. Hmm, Greece has no salt, Carthage has
no salt, we have two? Ah, silly Carthage has it right in core at Oea, not hooked up.

IBT Longbow out of Entremont loses to Crusader. Spear exits Tolog.
Carthage starts Shakespeare.

[5] 620 - Whip Lindum and Burgidala. At Entremont... Crusader beats spear. Another, same.
Cav beats spear. Up NW archer hits spear and loses, elite horse finishes him.
At Entremont Crusader promotes vs a spear. Second wins. Cav comes in and utterly
crushes the last spear, capturing the city, and with it the Mausoleum of Mausollos.
In open, cav beat two longbow. We see a stack of seven Celts including bows,
pikes and crusaders, but three steps too slow from Entremont. We kill two pikes
and can still retreat.

IBT Longbows come at us hard. Those slow guys were on a road in neutral territory!
Two bows each promote a musket to elite. Then two crusaders die, another bow dies
and a last bow kills an elite musket. Then out of another town, bow dies to musket.

[6] 630 - We smack down the survivors of that.
[7] 640 - Some cav reach Gordovia, the new capital, and one beats a reg musket.
IBT A few helpful border expansions. Greeks are building Newtons. Sadly,
at the pace the two of us are going, they'll be in Nationalism ages before
we fight them. (Although if they fight Carthage, rifles are good :P )

[8] 650 - Guiness Pub is founded NE of Richborough as a fun loving new fiefdom!
Furs come online outside Russadir. This and the new Irish stout make the people
happy and lux drops to 10%. Cav promotes on pike at Gergovia. Vet cav loses to
reg spear, OW! Last cav beats the spear and captures Gergovia. Musket and Pike
defeated at Camulodnum. Healed cavs wake up and two defeat spears to capture
Lapurdum. Espio screen shows nine cities left for Celts. Our cavs approach
four. Way up north are five more pretty useless ones. Our culture is now about
2/3 that of the Celts.

IBT Three knights come from out of nowhere through Camulodnum and kill a cav
and crusader. Carthage starts Newton's too.

[9] 660 - Those knights just kicked up our war weariness.
Cav beats pike, cav retreats to vet musket, cav beats spear. cav promotes vs
Pike at Age. Spear there defeated, and spear, then hurt musket, and Agedinicum
is ours. Back east we lose a cav.

IBT - Three more knights come, but can't quite reach us.

[10] 670 - As we press on to Tolosa, we get a Mil Great Leader, Jochi!
Cav army baby! Run to city, build army, throw two in, and come back and take
the city. Finally, cav beats knight at Camulodnum. Knights may hit us IBT,
but I don't think many more are coming.

Our next leader should pretty easily take the last two Southern Celt cities -
Camulodnum and Augustinium. With weariness and need to consolidate it would
be fine after those two to take peace. Otherwise, ally with Greece against Celts
after taking the last two South cities and let Greeks polish off the Northern
five cities. Be cautious about flips - don't leave an army very long in a
touchy city, and of course, do no throw away the Cav army carelessly! :P
Also do NOT be in a rush to take on Carthage, we have way too few cav, and way
too few muskets on our front line. Wait til our deals are over for sure, and also
be sure to sign up the Greeks when that day comes.

The new view of our lands...

Charis

The frisbee, I note, didn't fit.

Which I suppose means you'll all just have to wince and cringe at the thought of me playing again.

Got it.

[0] - Woodrow Dwip, descendent of the last Dwippish Mongol Khan, wins the archery contest. Palace advisors are perplexed by his chanting of strange slogans, such as "Peace in Our Time," "Rich Country, Strong Army," and "Let us make Carthage safe for Fuedalism!" This strange behavior is assumed to be a product of the Khan's ancestry and some strange :smoke: the Khan has.

I'm fairly unsure of Ulaanbaator's wonderful new direction. I'm not sure we have a chance at Newton's. Maybe at Smith's if we beeline for it, maybe Universal Suffrage for whatever good that does us. I think it may end up better for us if we switch it to the Military Academy and go that route. It won't be an issue on my turn, however, so I'll leave it to the next leader to do this or not as they please.

Too, whatever Lugdunum was making cav for, it's not anymore.

(IBT) - The Celts come out of nowhere with, well, longbows and knights and stuff. And kill our units. The Khan sends of a messenger to Brennus, asking him why he's building such weapons without permission.

[1] 680 AD - Batshireet Musket->Musket, Nalayah Worker->Worker.

Hrm. With an entire one fully healed elite cav, a wounded one, and a crusader, I can't take Camulodunum, but the best defender it has is a wounded elite knight, and that's pretty juicy. I go for it, and we win! Best defender is now a reg spear. Assuming reinforcements, we're all set.

Did I mention we're badly in need of units? Like, ANYTHING that looks vaguely like some guy on a horse with a weapon? I move two, count them, two cav up.

Too, we have raging problems with resisters in various places.

[2] 690 AD - Kazan riots, immediately after I checked for riots. Argh. I'm worthless at riot supression, I swear. Darhan Musket->Musket, Dalan Cav->Cav, Tsetserleg Keshik->Cav,

Agedincum loses most of the resisting populace, which puts non-revolting in the realm of possibility.

There is some moving up to take Camulodunum. There's hope it might even be next turn.

(IBT) - Remember all those Celtic knights and things the UN said they couldn't have? Yeah. They're back. They took a random slave worker, too. But that's fixable.

[3] 700 AD - Karakorum Cav->Cav, Kazan Cav->Cav, Almarikh Cav->Cav, Ulaangom Temple->Harbor.

"We're sorry, the Celtic offensive units you have dialed are not in service at this time. Please check your civ, and try your attack again."

Seizing the opportunity, I use some of our mostly healed elite cav to go leader fishing on the regular spears in Cam. This leads to a dead cav on an uberspear, but also leads to us owning Cam. With, I might add, no resisters.

(IBT) - Nobody said the Celts could have regular MDIs, either.

[4] 710 AD - Cataract Worker->Courthouse, Ratae Worker->Courthouse.

Lindum, some random city clear out on the other side of Greece, riots. Bloody war weariness.

"MDIs, meet the cav army."

"<gulp> H..hi c..cav army... (help!)"

[5] 720 AD - Alesia Pike->Cav, Ta-Tu Cav->Cav, Tabriz Cav->Cav. Yummy Cav goodness is now ours.

Augustodorum at least has a vet musket on defense. We've got a full health elite cav army right there, so after pondering Charis Tzu's Art of War for a moment, I go for it.

3 hp later, the musket dies, and we're down around pikes. The army goes for it again. Mmm...cities. Shiny. Big Stack O' MDIs just north. Not shiny. But that's why we back up the army with lots of cav, right? Yes, yes it is.

On the last MDI, I hesitate. Do we, or do we not, want to ally with Greece against the last Celtic cities? Yes and no. On the one hand, we could do with a world shortage of Celts just on general principle. On the other hand, those cities are in a fairly handy position to help out Greece. And Greece is scary. So I decide not to.

As it happens, they'll give up Printing Press for peace, along with a couple of cities. I take PP, decline the cities, remembering what happened last time, and not needing to hurt the Celts this time.

Thus it was that the Mongols were at peace once more.

[6] 730 AD - All that pesky resistance goes away. Poprush a temple in Augustodorum for some semblance of flip supression. Fix a whole bunch of cities.

[7] 740 AD - Karakorum Cav->Cav, Augustodorum Temple->Walls, Erdenet Cav->Rax, Har-Ayrag Rax->Granary. Troop movement.

[8] 750 AD - Darhan Musket->Musket, Mandalgovi Cav->Cav. Movement of stuff.

[9] 760 AD - Choybalsan Musket->Musket. Movement of stuff.

(IBT) - Sure Alex, we'll take a ROP with you.

[10] 770 AD - Ta-Tu Cav->Cav, Lugdunum Harbor->Courthouse, Tabriz Cav->Cav, Dalan Cav->Cav, Erdenet Rax->Cav, Bayan Musket->Rax. Woodrow Dwip, exhausted by all this peace, keels over and dies.

Most of our cav is in a big stack by Agedincum, with a couple more on the way. Our new Celtic lands could use a few more muskets, but are otherwise fine. Too, there are a couple of elite cav over there that could stand to join the rest of the army.

Save Carthage for Fuedalism!

(could they possibly stick the upload file link in a more useless location? Inquiring minds want to know.)

An excellent job Dwip, the Mongols rejoice at the peace and comfort of having no Celts within 1800 miles of them. (They're down to 5 cities, all up north)

I see Carthage and Greeks are in the next era, and will almost surely have rifles in the upcoming war. Regarding Mil Academy, it would be quite useful to have. Alas with it you build armies in THAT city, and Ulaan isn't nearly as suitable as Karakorum for that.

Carthage remains the main threat, and when the time comes it's going to be us+Greeks+Celts going against them in a very bloody and extended war. We're a full five techs short of getting to the next age, and our Feudalistic income will have a tough time keeping up (probably a steal per 10 turns would be quickest).
We'll definitely want a bunch of muskets at the front line vs what would be a very quick cav assault by Carhage. If OUR cities are better defended than the Greek ones however, they'll go after Greek cities instead of ours, so it makes a big difference.
(EDIT - Hey, we have an average army compared to Greece?? Not good new for them in the upcoming war, as we're weak to Carthage and strong to Celts)

Timing-wise, if we were a little closer I would opt to build a massive cav army, make a half-dozen or more settlers to fill in gaps, and as soon as we have rifles ourselves, start the big war. That gives us a short period between rifles and inf to wage the war. Getting rails would be of great help before doing that, but by the time our factories are done, if they're up to infantry, we'll have missed our opportunity and must sit til tanks. With 60 units under our support, it's time to crank out a huge army.

Not a got it - so someone should step up if they like.

Got it.

Hmm, for reasons I will only tease you about now, turns take a wee bit longer than I had thought they would take. I will hope it is ok if I do not complete until tomorrow evening.
