Thread title says it all...
I can run cIV, but the terrain is all black and the leaders look creepy. Those are the sure signs of a bad card. Can you recommend a graphics card that doesn't cost more than $60?

Keep the $60 and actually save up for a real graphics card. $60 will get you a 1985 Ford Taurus, where as $200 will get you a nice 2006 Eclipse, $400 a Corvette and $600 a Ferrari.

Taurus came out in 1986. Below GeForce 6600 is not worth buying. Radeon 9600pro is other decent card.

So how much would this end up costing?

I had the same problem with my Intel Extreme Graphics chip (doesn't support T&L). I bought a GeForce FX 5500 for $80 today (this was the cheapest that I could find that I knew would work). The game looks and runs fine now. The intro movie is still a little choppy. I'm using Driver version 6.14.0010.777. What a relief! I have an HP Pavillion Pentium 4 2.53 GHz 512 MB.

seasmith - what is the rest of your system? Specifically what kind AGP slot do you have?

Any GeForce 3, 4, 5xxx series nVideas are going to work good. If you have an old 2x slot you will want to get a 1.5v 4x or 4/8x card. You will want to stay away from newer cards that will only run on .8 v

There is some issue with some Radeons. I'm not having any trouble with mine. If you can find a radeon 9100 it is probably hands down the best card for the money.

What ever you get you'll be happier if it has 128 M of onboard memory.

From everything I've read in various threads -- plus the minimum reqs -- I should be able slide just in under "OK".

I've got a NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200, 64 mb ram running on a Dell P4 1.7 ghtz, 512 RAM.

I grabbed the most recent driver from nvidia - and got the game to run....

But - I'm getting freezes constantly - most serious enough that I can't even seem to get the taskmanager up to get out of the game. Lots of hard reboots. I have yet to get to turn 2.

I've throttled graphics down to medium - but absolutely zero change in performance (I'll try minimal next - but not holding out a lot of hope).

I don't really play a lot of graphic heavy games - so I'd prefer not to plunk down $50-80-100 for a new card, but if that's the only option, so be it...

Any else have experience to report using this card?

Are you frickin kidding? I've got a 9800 pro and by endgame it is unplayable, it lags so damn much. Plus my processor is 3.4 Ghz P4 and 1 gig of ram... its ridiculous I know.
