Regarding Lairs

First, as a question, do lair outcomes scale with difficulty or something similar?

In every mod I've played I've honestly just loathed Lairs. They make exploring nearly impossible and about 80% of the time I explore one the effects are something bad. Most likely I'll get Rabies/Plague/Poison/Other-Sickness-I-Have-No-Viable-Means-To-Heal, resulting in that exploring unit become a total waste of flesh to have around. If not that I'm going to spawn a pack leader with 11 strength, pick up a demonic sword that makes me lose control of my unit, get rabies again, have my unit flat out die, get rabies again, the list goes on and on.

In particular, animal lairs bug me. It's always going to be rabies, plague via mosquito bite, or pack leader of death. At least Fall Further had it where walking over an animal lair made it die, I have to keep wasting units in Orbis to go out, clear the lair, explore it and die and then have barbarians just spawn them all over again.

There are some good sides to some lairs. I found a mana source at the bottom of a dungeon, got teleported across the map once, a few supplies, two great leaders, various other things. But man, the negative effects just bite.

End rant.

Edit: Or just randomly losing 42% health daring to walk into the place.

Edit Edit: Yes I did just spawn a 11-strength Treant super unit of death near my capital, sigh.

I believe you're actually not supposed to explore them until you're prepared to face the possible negative outcomes. in the meanwhile, you can just put a unit or 2 on them to keep stuff from spawning or, my favourite and lots of others' , just use them as free xp :D

Sounds like your problems are with Orbis, shouldn't this go in their subform?(BTW, the destroying animal lairs is not a FF feature, it is like that in normal FFH).

Personally, I think lairs are just fine. Yes, the cursed red sword is annoying since you can't prevent it and can't cure it, but diseases are fine, monster spawns are fine, and the rewards you can get greatly outweigh the risks, assuming you are prepared for whatever comes out of there.

In multiplayer games, there is actually a rule to not explore lairs before turn 50. After 50, there is usually a mad rush to claim them. They're that good, if you know how to use them.
