Hey,

anyone out there willing to implement regiments and formations into FfH?
similar to Warhammer FB mod (the formations and stuff is already in that Mod, just has to be transfered to FfH´s xml).

I would really like to see it (at least as an option / mod mod), but personally would like to spend my time on providing new art, that`s why i ask for someone from the community :)

Not so bad if no one´s interested, just wanted to ask ;)

Damn... i was planning to do this, but forgot...

I'll try to do this (but might not: i have school work,)

Will be awesome, when you are done with it,
but no hurry, school comes first!

i assume by formations you mean that one would be more effective against (infantry, calvary, ect.) but what do you mean by regiments?

i guess i meant is it only a visual change or does it effect gameplay

It would be completely visual and have ALMOST no effect on gameplay. If they increase the average number of units in each formation drastically, but do not increase the number of simultaneous fight animations (or have incredibly staggered numbers of total units) then it will add time to each battle when you watch the animations.

Of course, if they made it so that there are typically 50 guys (really small) and all of them fight at once, it can also wind up being really, really neat to see :)

I was really interested when I thought that we were talking about making things similar to the pikemen (or whatever they were) in FfH 1.0. You know, combine two, three, or more pike units together where promotions combine, and each extra pike unit added adds +1 to the strength of the new unit.

It's sort of like Flesh Golems now, except not really magically related.

Special combinations of units could be really cool, and could even be UUs!

Such as:

1. Lanun could combine privateers to create a Pirate Fleet
2. Sheaim could combine Tar Demons for a Tar Behemoth (Giant nasty Jabba the Hut-tish kind of thing)
3. Bannor could combine demagogues for a Roving Mob (not a great name, can't think of anything better for the moment)
4. Everyone could have some sort of mixed formation combining Cavalry, Infantry, and Archers. This needs more thinking through -- what's the point of combining the unit into one if the player already has three independant units that serve a similar function.

Just a brainstorm,

Josh

exactly like this.
Visually only, all units fighting at once.
and yea, i always wanted to see 20 men formations (really small) battle it out all at once ;)
But the maximum formations exisiting are for 11 or 12, so, someone would first have to create the xml for those formations (i think Zebra released once a point and click formation editor, but i am unsure of this).

You can check out WHFB mod or some of the EDU mods have it too.
Or, click on the little Images:1 underneath my avatar

There is a point & Click formation editor that uses your internet browser, I was going to link it here, but when I read the thread before posting a link I found it was only for base Civ IV and Warlords :( Not sure if formations changed much for BtS though, so it might still work.

Here is the link anyway, just in case it works.

But wouldnt it mess with the performance? I mean, the game is slow with only one model per unit. If there be 11 models per unit to form a squad then the game should have more trouble visualising it. I am right? [hope not cause such formations would be pretty neat]

maybe it would. depends on your computer, and it will stay optional, whatever happens ;)

Actually when I first read this I thought it WAS going to be functional! Just like ships... but maybe full points is too powerful... it could be as simple as +10% vs horses / -10% vs infantry for one formation, +10% city attack / -10% vs horses for another formation etc.

the point is, if someone wants to make a modmod that adds functionality, i would be more than happy.
But my main point is from an artistic point of view I would like to see a mod which gives some more epicness to FfH by adding smaller scaled but higher numbered units in different formations. (like WHFB has it... which lets me think... formations are in its own xml and one only assigns a formation ot the unit in the unit.xml... should not be too hard. but still, I don´t have a lot of time for it and havent touched xml for a long time now :/ )

Eh, battles with Heroes will look somewhat silly though, what with a dozen guys going up to the Hero one by one and getting killed

yea, probably. (but combat animation stops after a given amount of seconds i think). anyway, I still wanna see it ;)

Really? Is there no way to improve the amount of seconds in the code or something?

Because that really really would suck if someone took the time to do this.
