In other words, USA got it last, Asia and Europe got it late on the day before.

10-23-14 is not after 10-24-14.

and the americans got it last.

all times on the actual map are local, so midnight New York time (24th 00:00) is somewhere around 2pm Australia time on the 24th.

but if you note, the Aussie time was 4am local.

Ahh, if you read the post i was referring to he said that Asia got it late on the day before when the picture clearly indicates that they received it the day after. This, combined with the fact that the times were going somewhat linearly backwards i mistakenly assumed that it was global release, i didnt actually do the conversion. Either way i thought the release was global and was just being funny when saying that American's got it before us... i didnt mean it literally hence "we all received it on the same time", i was unaware that there was actually a delay. Sometimes in Australia they advertise the global release time and when you go to pick it up on that day they say you have to wait due to it being the next day...hence the joke.

The release during the portion of the year in which those areas that observe Summer Time in both sides of equator are doing so, including both NYC & Sydney. (GMT+10 is Sydney's standard timezone, but it switches this Sunday to GMT+11. NYC doesn't fall back until first Sunday in November so so will still be on UTC - 4.)

Note that release should be by region set on your steam account; someone who lives in Hawaii flying to New Zealand with your laptop in an attempt to play Civ VI earlier will not work.

Can't blame 'em for trying ;)

So it's confirmed that I should have it here in NZ midnight my time on the 21st?

So what are the chances I'll be able to play Thursday evening EST via a VPN?

If it is not a global release time I guess it will be time to get out the old vpn tool.

Guess I go to the future to a land down under

Sad too 8( 40 plus people playing

So what are the chances I'll be able to play this Thursday evening EST via a VPN?

Absolutely worth noting. Though they don't seem to care about unlocking early so much as buying games in different regions, it's still a risk.

That said, the thought of going through an entire workday knowing the game out is already hard to deal with, even three and a half weeks in advance. I'm also considering drastically altering my sleep schedule for release week so I can play 12-8, go to work without feeling too exhausted, get home, and binge on Civ again till I can't anymore... We'll see

edit - I could always move to Australia

Man...I just had a look at the graph... and was sad :(
Whats the bet that the trough(roughly 23) is all the Youtubers and the peak is the Devs as well :)

I don't know if the YouTuber's version is connected to Steam. If you look at the graph over the last 1 or 3 months, you don't see a big spike after the 21st. There's been a fairly constant weekly cycle which must be the developers working in the week . The weekend trough is slightly up this past weekend, but as we get closer to launch I expect overtime to be increasing anyway :P

I use VPN often for other reason, and so does many other people while steam is running.

It is really hard for them to ban people because of the widespread use of vpn's while steam in running even if you are not using steam.

It is only when you use it to buy games cheaper is it looked into.

How does it determine this? What's to stop someone from changing their account to New Zealand to play earlier? This might actually be meaningful in my case, because I'm an Australian living in the UK. When I created the steam account (12 years ago) I was in Australia and bought all my games in Aus until 3 years ago, nowadays I use a UK debit card and everything -- so how do they determine which region I belong to?

With your ip probably

But that contradicts what joncnunn said.

There would be nothing stopping them from double checking the IP address of your country when you make the steam account change in what country you are in to verify it's reasonable.

With Steam your region is locked when you put in a payment method linked to an address. So if you want to change your region, you have to have a payment method on the new address.

i remember unlocking Civ BE early using a VPN and logging in New Zealand.

LOL @ the "american master race" dude above. Really .....
