Hi guys,

actually we are really close before publishing Release 2.1.

There are only 3 open todos left:

1) Great Admiral Names for Portugal (and Portugal Europe)
--> This I consider essential.

2) Two Achievments for Sea Battles won
--> Not really necessary for this release, it could be done in a later release as well.

3) Some last final tests
--> Most of the recent changes were texts, so we do not need to overexaggerate.
A few weeks ago we had already done a lot of testing.

Otherwise everything that was planned or started for the upcoming release seems finished.
Yeah I know. It is Soccer World Cup and most people - including myself - are busy watching. :)

Back to topic, please!
Aye, Sir! :D
Spoiler :

But it really was a interesting match yesterday...!

So, here's a preview of "10 Sea Battles won" achievement:

Great picture.

In German: Könntest du die Segel neutralisieren bzw. ganz weiß machen, bitte (ohne Aufdruck)?!

How about giving names to soldiers based on where they are created? For example, "Philadelphia [Inf\Cav\Ay] Regiment <number>"? Or "Willemstad 1st Foot".
Or borrowed from history: "1st Maryland Regiment"
Would help with atmosphere and I guess, fairly simple to implement.

No, that would not be fairly simple to implement.

1) Those would need to be nationspecific.
Otherwise it would be completely unatmospheric.

2) Places like "Philadelphia" do not appear in my game for example, since I call my cities differently.

3) Most military walking around is using Professions.
Names can only easily be given to Units.
Would be quite unatmospheric if a Unit is created as "Philadelphia Infantery Regiment" and later on it would become Cavallery.

4) Experience has shown that it takes quite long to collect such nationspecific lists of names.

5) We have an incredible amount of different land military Units and Professions.
Having only a small part of those with nationspecific names is not really useful.

Summary:
That is definitely something I do not want to implement, Sorry.

No, I did not mean that. I meant, if you had a city called "Philadelphia" and you spawned a soldier there, it will be called Philadelphia Infantry Regiment #1. Next would be #2. If #1 died, the next soldier will take up that name again that is, #1.
There is no *hardcoding* of names. It will be derived from the name of the city that is in the plot the soldier unit is spawned (when you give a colonist a musket).

But even that will not work.

Calling a unit "Cityname Infantery Regiment" is total nonsense in Civ4Col because military mainly works with Professions.

You could assign that unit the Profession "Dragoon", "Cuirassier", "Town Guard" or whatever.
It would look totally stupid to have Cavallery run around and call itself "Infantery Regiment".

And always renaming Units when their Profession changes is total crap.

And what about units that are equipped in Europe.
And what about ...
And what about ...

Also, the Player can always give the unit a name manually if he desires to do that.

It is a bad idea from my point of view and will thus not be implemented in RaR.
(Both, considering atmosphere and implementation.)

It would be lots of effort for no benefit.
(It would most likely even be annoying to me.)

Sorry.

But of course you can code anything you want in your private version or modmod.

How do you do that, I've been trying to rename wagons to help manage trade and I can't find where. I've read a lot of threads but don't remember seeing it.

How do you do that...

Simply click on the Name / Description of the Unit.
(Lower right corner of the screen, when a unit is selected.)

Then rename it.

Shouldn't be too difficult to do. :)

Yeah, it's easy if you know it's there. Thanks, worked like a charm.

Congrats on the WC win. You guys must be super pumped! :king:
Back to topic, the idea is to create a soldier (cavalry or infantry) from a previous profession, whether the previous profession is a "free colonist" or say a "musketman", would reuse the same logic. So if I create a musketman in city A, it would result in "A infantry regiment 1". If I make it a dragoon in city B, it would result in "B cavalry regiment 1".
Of course if you don't want infantry\cavalry in the name, that's also fine. In that case, if the unit already has a non-null name, we will not auto create a name.
As to soldiers that are obtained from Europe or via events, they will naturally not have names. The idea is to be able to track your soldiers and give them a more "personal" touch. Manually naming is a bit tedious IMO, when you're pumping out soldiers left and right. Of course, if you are not stoked by the idea, I totally understand your decision to not implement it.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to ask whether there is any change you are going to release 2.1 this weekend? :-)

I've been about to start a new game for some time now, but would wait for 2.1 if it is shortly incoming. ;-)
