Hi there!
Can someone make a mod for islamic sects?
I have zero experience with CIV5 modding, but I am full of ideas.
I understood that adding or editing religions to CIV5 is just a matter of copy paste and editing texts in certain files.
If someone would be so kind to help me, I would be very grateful.
The islamic sects I would love to see are as follows; first by adjective and then its followers and a short description:
1. Sunni (sunnites; upholders of the stories attributed to the prophet Muhammad)
- Caliphate-system, mostly resembles a constitutional republic. Sunni's were followers of the Qurayshite elders, who would chose the next leader among themselves by elections. The chosen leader had to govern according to the principles in the quran, and their consistency with it was controlled by the people. Caliph could be impeached if they did not live up to these standards. In principle, a Caliph was chosen for life. The only reason for a Caliph to step down, was through death or impeachment.
2. Shia (shi'ites; adherents of Ali)
- A mix between autocratic and oligarchic monarchy. Shiites believed in hereditary leadership from the bloodline of the cousin of the prophet, Ali. Leaders could only be chosen from this bloodline, which makes their political system ologarchic. Its hereditary, which makes it monarchic too. And to the leader were attributed, supernatural qualities and absolute obedience. This makes it autocratic and strictly theocratic.
3. Khariji (kharijites; those who went out of the fold of the community)
- Kharijites (mockingly called like this by their adversaries; although they used to call themselves 'Shuratiyah' or 'Shuratites'; those who buy the hereafter with their lives'). Their political system resembled classical Greek 'direct democracy'. Kharijites did not recognise any form of oligarchy or monarchy, and held the belief that all muslims are equal and that 'even a black slave could suffice as a leader of all muslims'. What we know about them is definitely contaminated by literature of their critics, but it is reasonable to say the kharijites were violent activists against the oligarchic centralization of power.
4. Murji'i (murji'ites)
- Murji'ites (those who postpone; called like this cause they refused to judge or renounce others belief in God). Murji'ites could be seen as moderate kharijites, and were a-political pascifists, stayed neutral in words and deeds during conflicts (quietists), and left all judgement to God.
5. Mu'tazili (mu'tazilites)
- These were the rationalists, heavily building upon classical Greek rational philosophy, their preferred political system was meritocracy. When the mu'tazilites came to power, they were soon sensitive to elitism and political corruption. They believed only rational people upholding a rational view of islam could rule the muslims, and denounced shia and sunnis as superstitious and backward heretics. Later though, they would participate in tendentious alliances with both sunni and shia (mostly shia), to deter the one against the other, and stay in power. The mu'tazilites were the ones who were resonsible for the great Golden Era of islam; virtually all scientific progress was because of them, while sunnis and shias were being put in dungeons and executed on the accusation of superstition and heresy.
In laymans terms:
1. Sunnites = democrats
2. Shi'ites = monarchists
3. Kharijites = socialists
4. Murji'ites = pascifists/quietists
5. Mu'tazilites = meritocrats
There were many more sects of coarse, but these were the most important ones with the greatest impact in early islamic history.
The symbols best to use for the 5 sects, are in my opinion the following:
1 sunni
2 shia
3 kharijite
For the sake of symbolism; this also can be used which is the symbol of the Sultanate of Oman, an Ibadhi country, which official religious sect is derived from Kharijism:
4. murji'ite
No symbol known. Could be a flower LOL
5. mu'tazilism
No symbol known. Could be the black Abbasid flag, or for the sake of symbolism:
An Arabic astroblade, to symbolize their rationalist views.
Thnx in advance and if not, whateverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
