VERY good points. I totally forgot that this game is gonna be geared towards modding. I've never been a very adept modder, this game is apparently gonna be very modder-friendly. I'll utilize that.
I still like the idea of national religions vs world religions though, since it just seems like a cool gameplay idea, but I'm sure there'll be a way to mod that.
Well - the plan stands allready
But unfortunaly I have no modding experiance too
Well, we have to see what can be done with those editors that fireaxis promise - but I think it's a cool idea with those national religions, that would add a different strategy when it comes to religions, and a quite challinging too, because you would have a hard time to get allies or to trade techs if you stick to your national religion.
I'am just not sure what kind of reward would be appropiate for a player who choose this difficult way.. Maybe he can choose between several shires for his national religion, one for a war god ( free promotions ? ) , or one for a harvest god ( more food ? ) or one for a courier god ( ease diplomatic penalty ? ) Would that be a good idea or too imbalanced ?
btw did anybody new something about the origin religion of Mali or Arabia ( pre islam ? )

Exactly. Pretty much the whole point of religions as a game-play mechanic is that multiple civs would have the same religion, thus allowing the whole diplomacy bonus/tithe business. Adding more means giving everyone one each and more or less completely defeating the point of having them in there in the first place.
You miss the point - i have the feeling nobody read the suggestion properly
You would be right if we just want to add more worldreligions - but thats not what we wanted. The point is if you add national religions, they won't work like world religions. For example only Egypt can have the old egyptian religion, only the greek can have their old religion and so on. If you choose to stick with your old religion and don't adapt one of the world religions , then you have hard times in finding allie or trading partners, you can not build missionaries, no one else will ever adapt your national religion. You are in the defensiv, trying to keep away all those missionaries in order to preserve your old religion. (In order to intensify the tensions between old an new relions, I would even gibe those who have adapted a worldreligion a bonus for every pagan civ they converted. So there are still hugh advantages in adapting one world religion, and there is still a point in doing so. Keeping the old religion should have different advantages, and so we could add a new strategy to the game ... ( and not just adding more world religions )
