Mirc's post in some thread about how beautiful orthodox churches are made me decide to post a few pics of the ones in this city, which were built during the Byzantine Empire era and are some of the greatest byzantine monuments everywhere since Thessalonike was a very important city of the empire :)

You can post pics of religious buildings in your country, and compare architecture, or just note what you like ;)

Here we go:

Cathedral of St Demetrios:

The Panagia Chalkeon:

I will find more pics later :)

When I think of impressive Orthodox churches, I think of the Russian ones. I can respect the age of the ones Varwnos, but they aren't all that beautiful when it comes to Churches.

We don't have many big nice churches in Norway, but we have at least one gothic one in the city where I study:

This church is Albuquerque's oldest and dates back to 1718. The soft lines of the adobe construction are evident.

I'm sorry, I live in San Jose, and here in San Jose we don't understand the concept of aesthetically pleasing architecture...

Other than those mentioned by Lillefix and T/W, the famous cathedral in Norway is the Arctic Cathedral (called Ishavs katedralen in Norwegian, literally "The Ice Sea Cathedral"):

Also there is the Stavanger Cathedral, but there isn't a good wikipedia picture of that.
