Each civ has a preferred religion, but they seem to be totally random in secondary preferences.

For example, some other civ founded Catholicism and Poland should've opted for Protestantism, Eastern Orthodoxy or even Judaism as a second choice. But instead they took Shintoism!

Spain and England often pick Buddhism. And Russia often takes Confucianism.

Is there any way to program their second, third and fourth preferences? I don't see it in the XML file "CIV5Civilizations.xml" at all. They only have the primary preferences...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that if a civ doesn't get it's first choice then it will go alphabetically (Buddhism > Catholicism, etc.). Don't rely on this advice though as its probably just me imagining something though.

Are you kidding? In every game I've ever played that Ethiopia was in, they've founded Christianity every time.

Not sure about Confucianism; Ethiopia always seems to go Eastern Orthodoxy in nearly every game of mine.

Perhaps that's because I take Catholicism most of the time, and Ethiopia has Confucianism as its second preference?

Well, I only noticed this pattern in G&K, so perhaps they now prefer Eastern Orthodoxy.
