I just polished off the Cathaginians with my hordes of Glorious Sipahi. I had a military alliance with China vs. the Cathaginians. The turn I finished them off, the Chinese went from Polite to Cautious - did I "break" my agreement with them?

Would you take a rep hit for doing the same thing AND you were giving a luxury as part of the military alliance?

Thanks...

There's a lot of things many people see as unfair with the way all the turn-based deals work.
It did count as you breaking your deal by killing them off before the alliance was over.
Also look out for breaking trade deals if the road to a resource/lux is pillaged, or a sea/air route is broken by the airport/horbour being destroyes (either yours or theirs!) or a blockade of naval units around either horbour.

If you finished off Carthage before the 20-turn MA was complete, then you will get an "Attitude Hit", since you *broke* the alliance.

If a Lux was involved in the deal (you to them), then I think you will get a Rep hit, as well.

What if China had finished them off before he did? That would have been a
*broken* alliance too.

Well, there is no penalty for the human if the other member in the agreement breaks it, so China would be the only party who lost something.

when that happens, I always figured they were just pissed because a) you had destroyed another civ (and you get a rep hit when that happens, anyways, right?) and b) you know longer have the bonus rep from having an alliance. but they don't consider it a broken alliance. it could also be that the luxury you were trading to them is no longer being traded. that could also make them annoyed, because I think you get a bit of positive rep for that, as well.

but i doubt they consider it a broke alliance, since they never get they usually go from Polite/Gracious to Annoyed, in that case, whereas it's usually just Cautious, or even Polite, if I finish of another civ. well, that's what I've noticed, anyways.

Yeah I usually leave them with one city until the 20 turn deal is up, the only problem with that is you might lose a city or two from culture flipping if he has a larger culture than you.

What if you have a trade deal with a civ at the same
continent and you start a war with your neighbour
who is providing the trade route on land and at sea.
The trade deal was broken, although I had a harbor.
Do you get a reputation or attitude hit?

I´m not 100% sure but I think that must be on the rep account. You are responsible for *breaking* the deal...

You could also suffer a penalty for becoming the dominant civ.

I had to bribe my way into UN chairman after getting just a bit too strong for Hanibal's liking last game.
