I think the replay feature should be remove. It is the same as cheating because you can see the exact location of other civ's cities on the map during the replay.

So why remove it? Anyone that 'cheats' is just cheating against themselves. For me, the challenge of the game, and potentially losing, is the juice. There's no thrill in winning if you have no chance of losing.

Everybody knows : your computer is cheating.

I am playing only with my computer and with nobody else.

Cheating is inherent to playing with your cheating computer.

So there is a golden rule of having fun:

Cheat your cheating computer as much as possible.

You can get a map of pretty much everybody and everything else soon enough, through contact and trading for maps ...

I have seen cheating in many games. This is often due in large part to the inability of the AI to deviate from the way it is programmed. We can all play the game and say "The computer never does this. Let's exploit that!" or "The computer always goes right. Lets go left here and throw them off."
If it were this easy it wouldn't be any fun to play the game. Therefore I believe that there should be inherent advantages for the computer.
Sid even said that the computer cheats in the original - but for a different reason. He said that the Computer's triremes don't have the stay within one hex of home rule. This was to create more opportunity for communication so that the game was more enjoyable. Worked, too.
If all we do in this game is take advantage of what we know that the AI is going to do then how much fun is it? These computer cheats are there to make the game more enjoyable. Do you really think that Sid put them in so that he would always win?

Oh, and by the way. Yes, retiring to see the map is cheating. If you don't like it, don't retire - just quit. I'm guilty sometimes of retiring, but usually only when I already can see the whole map. I intentionally don't take note of any city locations. Sometimes I just want to see how I'm doing. If I'm wayyyy behind I may start a new game. Yes the juice is in having the risk of losing, but I like to have a chance to win as well.

You can watch the replay when you retired from the game.

I see what you mean now. Save the game then retire to see where everybody is and then load the game back up. That's just pathetic really. This is a single player game with variable difficulty level. If it's too hard, just decrease the level. Nobody should have to cheat with Civ3.
