Repost: How Old Were You When You First Played Civ?

I'm a latecomer to CIV, both in the sense that it was 1997 and Civ1 had already been out 6 years and was about to be updated later that year, and also because I was 40 - and that's a strange age to enter the Civ world.
I can still remember the hairs rising on the back of my neck when, late into the night, I planned a strike against the Aztec capital before their spaceship landed!

I first discovered the game in 1992 when a friend of mine introduced me to it. I was 21 at the time.

Haven't missed a Civ series since then. When I bought my first computer, Civ II came soon after that and I bought it and was a happy camper. :)

In 2001... Civ 3... I was ten. That would make me pretty young right now.

Ah... good times... good times...

Kudos to, ThomasHardy, AgedOne, Spider1, Furiey and Warpstorm. I was 42, the year was 1991, optimized assembly language device drivers was my profession. I needed a diversion.

I discovered Civ I in 1992, when I was 44 years old. I was hooked at once and have played all Civ versions (and Colonization, and SMAC). I'm glad to see I'm not the only old duffer here. :old:

But this oldster wants more building, trading and diplomacy goodies! Not that I'm averse to taking out Isabella or Monty early in the game. Or Louis XIV, whom I have started to dislike as a two-faced bastard (though it is fun to play as him). And fighting a medieval/early modern war against an aggressor when you are prepared for it has its bright moments, I'll concede that.

I Started the Civilization experience in 1991 with CIV I . . .

It was addicting as was CIV II, CIV III, and CIV IV.

The flexibility in game variations is excellent - each game has its individual flavor.

I have 18 grandchildren, and hope to get them addicted, as well - although they seem to like the first person "shoot-em-up" games better. Oh, well, there is room for variety, I suppose.

Whoa, 24 hour of civ. My record is something like playing 15 hours, sleep for 6 hours, gets up, and played another 15 hours (without breakfast or lunch).

Im another one who first played civ4 on my Amiga. It was an Amiga 600, I think I may even have had the 2mb upgrade by that point. Must of been 92-93 sometime.

I still remember one of my first games where the Chinese empire was huge and I had to somehow nuke their capital then take it which caused a revolution and it was easy from there.

I played Civ 1 for the first time when I was 11 or 12 years old. So that must have been 1991 or 1992. It was on a then brandnew 386 PC :)

Hmm, I must have been 12-13 when I sat down with CivI for the first time. I could hardly beat cheaftain but I was hooked anyway.

11 years old in year 1992 I started to play Civ1 in Amiga 500. I remember how I played +12 hours sessions after school only to face my civ to be nuked by Mongols :D

I was really feeling old earlier in the thread!!

I played Civ I on a Mac, I think in '92, so I would have been 24 then. Did not play Civ III.

I'm 17 now, and first played CivNet (Civ I for Windows) when it came as a package with a new Packard Bell computer. 133MHz, 1.6Gb hd, etc. Once I found it I really enjoyed it (even though I was rather rubbush, and on Chieftain...). Got CivII a year or so later when I realised it was out.

Must have been 9 years old, and that was 1998.

I first played Civ II back when I was 6 (back in '97...go figure). I would get up before school just to play civ for a couple minutes!
