Find a Civ that is providing a trade good to another Civ. Figure out a way to deny them access to the promised trade good. (Pillage the road network over the trade good, or if their trade route depends on your roads, declare war.)

Once done their rep is ruined forever, giving you an advantage.

Is this an exploit?

As far as I can tell, the AI couldn't care less about the trading reputation of another AI. I may be wrong, but it does seem that way when every AI ends up as a known cheat and yet they continue to trade happily.

Not really, it's more trouble then it's worth since you have to be at war to pillage.

The AI doesn't suffer half as much as you do when it's rep is tarnished.

Rep hits for the AI DO affect the other AIs.

The AI has no idea whether you are a human or another AI when it makes trade deals. That bit of information is only used to set the appropriate price. The AI uses the same routines to handle all trade, no matter who it is with.

IF this were true, then the AI's I play against would never trade with each other. I suffer through at least 3 sneak attacks per game (and those are only the ones I know about). I don't know why Firaxis would have AI's consider other AI's reps in trades, its far too easy to resource deny an AI and ruin their rep. Reputation a concept for the player; to make trades harder and to keep them (somewhat) honest in their diplomacy.

You do have to factor in the trade bonuses AIs get.

I have gotten the impression lately that the AI only suffers a rep hit if the deal it is breaking is still within the first 20 turns. There have been several occassions where i was attacked the same turn the deal became renogotiable. It could just be coincidence or maybe the hit is less at that point?

That's not entirely true. If you are in neutral territory, you can pillage roads. If the AI has a colony with only one road to it, and that road is in neutral territory, then pillaging the road effectively denies the AI access to their colony. I've done it plenty of times, when not at war.
