Reputation hit nonsense

I hope this won't trouble me in civ4.
The reputation feature is questionable implemented in this game
and it's beginning to irritate me.You have to keep an eye on land
and sea trade routes,you can't make MPPs,etc.

I don't know what caused to get the reputation hit,but the Iroquois
were destroyed by the Ottomans.I never had war with the Iroquois.
The only trade was an incense for gpt deal.
Also a few turns ago I made a deal with Elizabeth and sold rubber for
gpt and the Iroquois were already gone at that moment.
The whole reputation idea is kinda rubbish.The Ottomans did probably
cut off the trade routes and I did get a reputation hit.

Maybe the Iroquois were destroyed while your Incense-for-gold deal was running, and the game engine (foolishily) attribs to the player a bad rep if a deal gets unfinished and it's not the other civ who did it (and in the case it really wasn't Iroquois doings anymore than it was yours).

Stupid, I must say, but the only thing I can imagine that could have originated it.

selling rubber for gpt is always possible no matter how bad your rep is..
it will just prevent you from buying hard goods (a tech, lump sum of gold, maps and so on) for per turn payments (gpt, resource, lux)

You're confusing attitude with reputation.
What you are talking about is attitude.

Finallly,I can't buy techs for goods.
So I must have bought a tech from the Iroquois for incense +
something else,it was Communism I believe.

Attitude has nothing to do with what deals you can make
