I'd like to know whatever you may say about my Civ.
Until there, I'll give you some hints I hope you make use of.

If you, Jeff Atari, see this thread, please say something!!!
Pleeeease!

Some things are obvious:
1) Many expect Prince Henry the Navigator as our Leader. Don't do that. He was never a king and some are more worthy.

D. João II is the choice of those who know more of our history:
- He continued Henry's work in a better way
- He is called the "Perfect Prince" in History
- He divided the world in 2 with Spain, staying with the best half
- He almost conquered Spanish crown
- ...

2)Seafaring is a obvious trait

3) Port list of Cities have to include cities in Port Empire, not in modern Portugal.
Here is a list of possible cities:
Lisbon
Oporto
Guimaraes
Sagres
Coimbra
Leiria
Braga
Faro
Rio Janeiro (not Brasilia!!!)
São Paulo < Brazil (till 1825)
Luanda < Angola (till 1975)
Lourenço Marques < Mozambique (till 1975)
Goa < India (till 1961) (or Pangim)
Diu < India (till 1961)
Manila < Malasia (don't know... XIX?)
Ormuz < Iran (...)
Macau < China since 1999
Dili < East Timor (till 1975) (legally till 2001)
Bissau < Bissau Guinea (till 1975)
Praia < Cape Vert (till 1975)
Mina < Port fortress in today Nigeria, XV/XVI centuries

4) Great Leaders are easy to pick. Here is a list of the easiest:

Viriato (I BC) (leader against Romans)
D. Afonso Henriques (if not Leader) (1149)
D. Nuno Alvares Pereira (1385)
D. Afonso V (1471)
D. Afonso Albuquerque (1510) (India)
D. João IV (1648)
Saldanha (1830s)
D. Pedro IV (1834) (civil war winner)
Cap. Domingo Soares Branco (1897) (thx to Raen)
General Spinola (1973)

5)Colour: The Opporto wine colour would be a cool  Idea, but any other would do the job.

6) Port UU and Port 2nd trait
The difficult things.

2nd trait: RELIGIOUS, Industrial or Scientific are acceptable 2nd traits. Others are not for a reason or other.
Commercial is occupied by English but of course it would also give a fine choice.

UU: One of the following:
- A pike with x2 defense aginst horses (good to defend from Spains hordes... ;) )
(The one shown in some screenshots is perfect)
- A granadier to replace the riflemen (6/6/1)

- A Ship: Nooooooooo! Naval is so weak in this game. Or it is to get BIG improvements or please, please, don't do that.
- Other: If you think my sugestions are weak, please
SEE OTHERS HERE .
(of course the one that conquered Madrid in 1706 would also be enjoyed... ;) )

Thx for your time.

Waiting for an answer now...

I have news for ya- Jeff cant do much, hes a PR guy, not a developer/art director, and at less then 60 days from relese, the only thing the team is worried sbout is bug problems, the development stage is long past now, why else would my mant articles about the injustices done to Byzantium have died down?

your ideas are good, but they will either have to be incorperated into a mod, a new x-pac, or civ-4....

whoops, padma beat me to the punch line....

Just a reminder: Jeff is Marketing. Atari is just the producer of the game, it's the Firaxis and Breakaway folks who are doing the things you want. ;)

*salute to Padma*

Thanks guys. And Xen's correct, very little will change at this point with regard to units, strengths, etc. -- there's been a couple months of playtesting and balancing put into this already. I can only say that I think we're doing a lot of good work and I hope you'll be pleased, Portuguese.

I haven't played Portugal too much yet -- I don't think they're even in the Conquest I'm currently trying to master. (This one has some 18 civs -- no, not Sengoku, a different one -- and I'm so busy conquering nations up north that I haven't really made it south of the Iberian peninsula...)

Best,
Jeff Foley

hmmmm.... I hope your using either Rome or Byzantium well then :D :goodjob:

Thanks Jeff, I hoped there would be a Napoleonic one !!!!! :D

Baah, this is the WWII Europe scenario. :)

Jeff is obviously the Germans, taking over Denmark on his way to Sweden, Finland, Norway!!! :D

feh, who would want to be the nazi when you have mother Russia to command :D

Thx for the answer.
Just hope to see Port as a great CIV to play.

If there is enough time, perhaps somethings could be changed even now (that colour one would be cool).

But anyway, I'm going to trust CIV3 developing team... :D

BTW, if you're playing WWII remembre that Port is much more productive than that Ice Guys ;)

1) I will not confirm the existence of either of the scenarios you guys guessed. Soon... very soon...

2) Anyways, both of you were wrong. :D

All I can say is the Blitzkrieg would be a GREAT scenario but it might be Napoleon going after Sweden or something because they were against him a couple times you know. It might be a Medieval Europe Conquest too but if Portugal aint in it then it has to be a medieval Europe one, because didn't he say it wasn't Rome or Byzantium?

right, i think he's Rome conqouring the barbarian hordes :D...

after all, he statement implies he's in europe, that there are enimies in the north, that portugal is lower then his capital (at least), and he just said WWII, and Nopoleon were wrong :p

Hmmmmm, I was wondering about that. I had noticed very little nosie;) from you about Byz. recently.

I've got a few conversations on the UU going on, mostlly about its stats, and its place in the unit replacement thing (I think it should replace the knight, another guy says it should fill in a position between knights, and horsemen, but unless c3c werwe to come with such a unit, I dont plan on modding it...
