the patch is mostly to my liking, but when a research agreement completes, you seem to get all the science in your current project, without overflow. This really sucks. Can anyone confirm?

I'm pretty sure I ended up researching Metallurgy due to overflow from Fertilizer once. Not 100% sure, but I think that is what happened. (I had rationalism and porcelain tower of course, so I got full benefit from the RA)

I couldn't control it, so it was rather annoying, I wanted it elsewhere really ;)

So are you guys saying that when an RA completes the beakers go toward whatever tech you are currently researching and overflow (if any) goes toward some random tech?

Exactly what worries me in this discussion. I will have a chance for my own game in few hours, so can't test it.

LostInTime, are You sure, that there was only one tech selected, for research in Your game? Maybe Metallurgy was already marked for research too?

I can confirm overflow.

its obvious RAs were still going to be overpowered based on the changes. They still need balancing. I really don't like been able to get them back to 100% & rather easily at that. Why Increase late game tech costs when i'm just going to get them all for free using RAs?

I played only half a game so far (not enough time, eh), but RAs have been "fixed" by lower lux trade returns, as well as more aggressive AIs (at least in my game).

In late game, when you are too far ahead in tech, you also have to pay +200 gold per reasearch agreement (was +100 gold before).

I *might* have selected Dynamite as a beeline. Not 100% sure of that, maybe that's the case. I play through games quite fast, so I didn't really pay attention to it. I was going for a Science victory that game, so I really shouldn't have, but maybe my warmonger habits kicked in. I just know I got Metallurgy when I didn't want it ;)

But they haven't been fixed at all, i breezed through the tech tree leaving all AI in the dust in my game, as to Aggressive AI i don't know why your are having problems? normally like 1 neighbor hates me if at all... What settings do you play? & 240gold luxury instead of 300g isn't a fix. If anything i had MORE gold than i did pre patch, with things like the buffed Machu pichu & the 8 free units in freedom for example. I had no problems keeping RAs up with 6-7 other AIs the entire game after Rationalism opener + PT.

Actually i just half finished my scholasticism game & didn't like it, i was slower teching than RA spam & annoyed 3/7 AIs. :( 1 DoW after my 3rd CS ended up killing 2 CS.

I would rather the game didn't have RA. It is a bad mechanic IMO. I haven't noticed any problems regarding overflow.

I think the problem with RAs is that they provide a strong positive feedback loop without scaling costs.

What I mean is that the more RA's you complete, the higher your tech level, and therefore the greater the benefit for all your future RAs.

I think there are 2 potential ways to 'fix' them:

-Have them linked to your science generation(i.e. have the RAs provide a number of beakers based on a percentage of your current science rate)

-Treat them as a real alternative to science as a means to aquire tech and leave them as is, but have their costs scale with use (Each subsequent RA costs you an additional x% in gold)

I think I favour the second approach as that might lead to some interesting decisions on when to 'use up' your cheap RAs.

You breezed through the tech tree leaving the AI in the dust? Were you playing on Diety? If you're breezing past the AI and not already playing on the highest difficulty maybe the problem is that you are playing below your skill level. If you are already playing Diety and still breezing by the AI, then I commend you.
