it was prince level, so comparing that to an immortal game is pointless!
and to top it all I traded alpha with Genghis Kahn , he was tech leader in this game.
But It was in the ADs.

I have played now some games on warlords but still am lacking the "proper" feeling of the timeline a little.

So from your experience, at what time do the AI´s get alphabet in average and would trade it with you (because I still feel that it´s very/too late)?

When I selfresearch, I stick to this timeline:

Alpha: 1000 BC
CoL: 400 BC
CS: 100 AD
Lib: 600 AD (on deity 450 AD, because I normally can trade for metal casting and optics and lightbulb directly)

GL is vital I think, because of the GS production, but this has been mentioned (several times ) before

around 1000 BC for alphabet seems about right

It's been pretty variable, but certainly not 1000 BC. The good games maybe 300 BC, the bad games could push into the AD years. As a rough indicator, instead of researching Alphabet directly I'm planning on MC (slow) + Sailing + generally through Priesthood (to unlock Monarchy and CoL).

Actually I missread you question, i tought you were aksing when to get alphabet youself. About 1000bc is what i aim for.
But to answer your question, ai gets it around 800bc on diety pretty often so i wasn't far away anyway
