Research screen crashing the game...

Hi folks. I've been dabbling in modding the game a bit, and I seem to have hit a snag...

The only modding I've done is as follows: on Conquests, I removed the Hittite Civ and replaced it with my own. Then, for this Civ and 2 others, I created duplicate of some units with alternate graphics (ex: Chinese Spearman, Russian T-34, Rafale jet fighter, etc...). Didn't remove any of the original ones. I also added a few extra resources - although I did that earlier and didn't have a problem with it.


Now, the units seem to work fairly well, BUT, trying to go into the science screen (F6) will crash the game. Funny thing is, not on the first page though, and not at the same spot for all players. in a LAN game with a friend, playing my own Civ I crash at the Medieval screen, and he (playing the modified Chinese) will only crash at the modern screen... :confused:


Anyone here can help me with this problem? So far we can play around it, but it's still quite annoying not being able to change your research as you desire...

Sounds to me like some of the unit graphics are missing. Does the game give you a message before it shuts down, saying it can't find a file? If so, that's your problem. The game can't display the Science Advisor screen unless it can find the small icon graphics for all the techs *and* for all the improvements and units that those techs allow. If different civs are crashing at different parts of the screen, the tech graphics must be OK, so I reckon there's a problem with some of your civ-specific units. Make sure that the PediaIcons text file has the correct information for them, including the icons.
 
I actually found a couple of errors I'd missed on two civ-specific units - damn .wav files with a extra space at the end of the name. Seems to be working now - too bad it can't be repaired for our current game.
