Is there a mod that lets me change the research speed but keeps everything else the same? I play on quick for quicker build speeds, but i find the research speed is so fast that when you build a few units and start fighting with them, you quickly progress to the next era and render them obsolete. Makes unique units pretty worthless.

Search for slower research in Steam.
There is one mod that will give something like 30% slower research, which is still really fast (I play Quick as well - have the same problem you described).

There are a group of mods called Luddittian Progression or something (search for slower research as that term will lead to them, I'm not sure that Luddittian Progression is the correct name so just search for slower research). There are like four mods in this group, one has 100% slower research, the others are 200%, 300% and 400%.

I'm playing a 100% slower research game currently. It still seems kind of fast once you get your empire going, the turns to research times slid from 20+ turns to 5-7 turns (or less sometimes) once I got myself established. So you might want to try even slower.

Also, you might want to turn time victory off if you play with slow research on Quick speed as the timescale gets thrown way way off. Like, sailing gets discovered in 0AD, for instance. So if you don't turn off time victory you might get a victory/loss in 2020 AD but you're actually still in the Renaissance.

Funny I find the research too slow to the point where I had to speed it up using XML files. If left alone, I wouldn't research Flight well until the mid-22nd century.

hobby : good point about the time victory

soul : how did you edit the XML file to do that? Would be quicker than installing a mod...the only thing i an find is the global defines XML, but i only see "base research speed" in it.

I used the Eras XML and reduced the latter eras by at least 50% (I believe the ResearchPercent tag for Info age is 3.
I did use the GlobalDefines to reduce the offensively high upgrade cost to x2 (instead of x20), and increase the AI difficulty setting to Prince.

Found out how to do it, the file is civ5gamespeeds.xml and you can alter speed per speed setting. Trying out standard research on quick speed now.

Can you please tell me the full file path as to how to get to this?

In order to be able to switch to the "stock" game, do you make up your own folder with the different speeds "mod" and interchange the folders when you want to play Mod or not?

Also, do you know the full path to get to the production costs? I want to speed everything way up. The game is massively too slow, even on Quick mode.

There used to be a Blitz mod, but I don't see it around for BNW.

Regards,

Marc
