I paid for the game and I've been playing fine since release. Today I go to play it and it's like the game has completely vanished from my system because Steam have decided to take it upon themselves and disable my account!

Their forum won't let me login saying that my email address has been banned and now all I can do is wait until they reply to my support ticket!

This is my first Steam game, so I don't know if this is just a glitch or something that happens from time to time. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Forum account and Steam account are different.

What do you mean by "disable my account" ? I'm a first hour user of Steam and never heard of such a thing.

As for the forums, you might have been banned from there by a moderator for any reason. Do you participate ?

You never gave your password to anyone did you ?

Well the forum I never joined before so I tried to register and it says that my email account is banned.

Trying to launch the game just brings up a Steam notification saying "Steam account disabled!"

I'm waiting on a reply to my support ticket as I can still login to their support system OK and someone from Firaxis is also looking into it for me as I posted on the 2K forum too.

**Edit**
Forgot to add....yes, it could be due to my previous problem with the IP checking on my account, but they said after I bought it that I wouldn't have any problems and the game's been launching fine and playing fine since EU release day. I haven't modded any files or added anything....just been playing the plain vanilla game.

I didn't receive any email from Steam advising me that my account was going to be disabled or was disabled.

This was the forum notice:
"The administrator has banned your email address. You will need to change your email address in order to continue. If you think this is done in error, please click here to contact the administrator."

This is the "disabled" notice and the link goes to this page:

I haven't done anything that listed on that page!

I've just received a full refund (reversal payment) from Steam for the game to my PayPay account!

What's going on? You don't want my money? I want to play the game!

Well I don't think there's anything we on this forum can do to help you.
Better wait until you have some answers from Steam/Firaxis.

I assume it's some misunderstanding related to this whole IP-thing.
I hope it gets sorted soon for you!

In U.S. Player reject steam.. in china steam reject player.
couldnt help it. That sucks dude.. but steam can do w.e it wants and you have 0 recourse. TBH your lucky you got a refund as its steam policy not to give them.
Please update us if you find out any information why this happened. im rather curious.

And for whatever reason, many don't consider the fact that they can do whatever they want without recourse a bad thing. But of course, Valve is infallible.

Hilarious. Someone in China actually pays for a video-game instead of illegally downloading it, and they don't want his money.

I feel for you, dude. I hope you find a solution really soon.

Valve put a chip in my brain and is recording my thoughts, true story!

I know, ironic isn't it!

I've heard nothing back from Steam or 2K, so that only leaves me one option, which of course I don't condone or promote but what else can I do! I like the game and I want to play it.

I noticed you got your refund not long after you gave your Steam name to the firaxis rep.. maybe that was your response...
Or maybe since your based in china now even though your a brit they expect you to get the chinese region version. Either way let us know if/when they let u know.

Why refund though? It would have been easier just to reinstate my disabled account. It's weird! I just think someone screwed up at Steam and disabled my account and reversed my payment in error. I don't think Firaxis will be very impressed with them after this. If they can do that so easily with me then they could do that with a whole load of other people and that would really hit them in the pocket!

Oh btw U might wanna keep an eye on private messages in the 2k forum.. i doubt the firaxis rep will post to your thread there he'll prob personal message u. I know you prob figured that out but figured id point it out anyway.

Scan your computer for viruses/malware and try setting up a new account on Steam. Most likely your steam account has been hijacked (which might mean other private info like e-mail address and billing info is also in danger), though it could just be a lucky break from a hacker brute forcing your password.

What location are you on? Do you share your internet access with other persons? Do you use wireless internet without sufficient protection? Maybe somebody used your internet connection and hence IP address to perform some malintented actions.

Whatever the problem, looks like piracy/hacking, and you are a victim. Weird you got your money back in that case though.

If there is some question of who is in control of the steam account giving the card holder their money back (since they know it came from there) and closing the Steam account so no more purchases can be made seems like right / safe way to go.

I'm just guessing but that doesn't sounds logical to me.

You must have done something horribly wrong. I mean, Steam is the best invention since the wheel, right?

Really though...

This so stupid. You should sue the ass out of those <snip>.

It's nothing as sinister as that, although I have read about that and that did scare me at first. I did get a PM from Firaxis and Steam believes my payment, which they happily accepted 7 days ago, is fraudulent and so they today reversed it.

Not sure how I'm supposed to convince them that I'm not some kind of international globe-trotting criminal, but I'm still waiting to hear from them.

It's a pity. Today is a national holiday in China and I was looking forward to having a good Civ session, so it's back to Civ 4 for the time being.

I think we found... carmen sandiego.. shes in CHINA...
Ya not much you can do but try a different distributor. I mean if the problem was with your point of purchase not the drm methods it might work.. but seeing as your e-mail is being blocked it may be just too much trouble just to find out they block you again then you can't get a refund. so.. ya GL with w.e you decide.
