Hoping something like this hasn't been posted already...

Anyway, a few nights ago I experimented with the map Editor to see which resources turn into other resources and wrote down the groupings. I thought I'd post it here as a handy reference guide to print out in case you want to transform a square with a resource.

The Format: Terrain, Group 1 Resource, Group 2 Resource

OCEAN- Whale, Fish
PLAINS- Wheat, Buffalo
FOREST- Silk, Pheasant
DESERT- Oil, Oasis
JUNGLE- Fruit, Gems
SWAMP- Spice, Peat
TUNDRA- Furs, Musk Ox
GLACIER- Oil, Ivory
HILL- Wine, Coal
MOUNTAIN- Iron, Gold

You may want to check out that link for other reasons than just terrain conversions. The tech tree is IMO the most useful, since it fits 1 A4.:)

Here's my Terrain Improvements/Upgrade Chart. Its a ZIPped Word for Windows 6.0 DOC file, which will open with WordPad or any Word converter. I needed better column control than I could get with a TXT file. I added columns for number of settler turns to Irrigate, Mine, Road/Rail, and Transform, as well as base Food/Shield/Trade numbers and improvements. The Specials are grouped in 3 columns as Specialist290 mentioned (Ocean/Whale/Fish), with Transformations noted.

Hey Elephant, do you think you could post it as an unzipped attachment? I don't have WinZip (my dad's computer is the only one that has Internet access, and he pretty much controls what programs get onto it).

What OS do you have? I think the new ones have built-in features for reading zip-files as folders. Win ME has it at least. Otherwise you probably should convince your father to install winzip.

Here's the file though, and you'll have to change the extension from txt to doc:

Its there. You have to go to about page 5 or 6. It is the first section under "scrolls of wisdom". It takes a little time to get to it, but it is very interesting reading.

I have ME, but I never knew about the features. How does that work? (The computer I have Civ2 on is Win95, BTW.)

Tried it before. Results weren't pretty.

Thanks. I changed it from Notepad to WordPad, since that's on both computers and MS Word isn't on the other one (i.e. "my" computer).

EDIT: Just realized MS Word is WordPad.

EDIT (again): I figured out how to extract files from .zip files. Thanks for telling me about that.

Not having WinZip is like having no spark plug in your motor. Its pretty much a basic necessity. Its free, its harmless. No excuse Dad ;)

Thanks for telling me about the ME's superior abilities, funxus. Now I don't need WinZip to view those files.

:) :worship:

You're welcome.:)

...which probably is why MS have included the ability to read them in the newer versions of windows. It works on XP too.
