Resource locations based on Civ?

Trying the Romans, I twice researched straight to Iron Working which popped up right next to my capital. In only one test game out of ten or so thus far did I not have the required resouce for my civ's UU close by.

I played as egypt last nite, ( low level) and had 2 iron and 2 copper pretty close.
