Alternate Ideas to the humankind inspired CIV development

I will purchase the game as soon as "classic mode" is confirmed.
You'll almost certainly be waiting until modding tools are released.

After watching the game play videos available, I believe the Civ changing will be the same as Humankind. I did not see or hear an option to keep playing as your starting Civ.

I like the idea of "Ages" and perhaps even "Eras" within the "Ages" would be a good idea. Here is how I would have added "layers' and "crisis points". I'll use England as an example.

Playing as England age of Antiquity first crisis point "Viking Raiders"
option 1 defeat the Vikings three times and gain knowledge of "Sailing"
option 2 Vikings have captured your capital play as the Vikings
option 3 Vikings have captured your capital continue to play as England with Viking leader.

Playing as England age of Antiquity era of conquest. second crisis point The Scots seek to unit all of Britianna under their banner.
option 1 "bend the knee" continue to play as Scotland.
option 2 unite under the English banner. Declare war on Scotland.
option 3 "Pax Brittiana" arranged marriage with Scot leader. Continue to play as England with Scottish leader.

Playing as England age of Exploration first crisis point "The Queen has died"
option 1 "The young prince/princess" select a new leader from the royal line. Continue as England.
option 2 "Claim to the throne" Scottish petition with claim to the throne. Select new Scottish Leader, continue to play as England.
option 3 "People rise up" Civil war. New government selected. New Leader selected from the English leader pool.

I believe there should always be the option to continue as the Civ you selected to start with. The option should be to change the leader not the Civ you selected.

I love the Idea...in general i prefer a historical connection when developing a CIV which makes sense, instead of forming egypt to mongolia which is absolute nonsense.

it is right that the peoples merge, we Italians are a group of peoples: Etruscans, Romans, Greeks, Lombards, Goths, Spanish, French, but what I would like to know: the peoples merge, but the human leader remains the player, the same for the player's government, monarchy or republic remains the same

Just to interject here: there was never a "nuclear Gandhi" bug. It's an urban myth. Sid himself clarified this. The "Nuclear Gandhi" thing started as a joke in Civ 5.
you are right...i just googled for it. At least i had the experience that Ghandi was hyper aggressive at some point, but probably because i never played on easy. And i thought all the time this was the mentioned bug lol.

"Alluding to the legend, this behavior was actually programmed into Civilization V, the fifth main game in the series, as an Easter Egg and subsequently cited more frequently as supposed evidence of the urban legend.[4] In Civilization VI, Gandhi has a 70% chance of having the “Nuke Happy” agenda, which leads him to build nuclear weapons"

the government of odoacer and the invasion got a created the Barbarian kingdoms in Italy and the vandals in Spain and then the Visigoths and the Franks in France, and the Germans and Bavarians etc. in Europe the barbarians should be able to merge with other civilizations in order to create new civilizations and new governments

From what we know of the game system so far, I would put the Germanic tribal period as a Singularity Event between 1st and 2nd Age, so that the various 'continuances': Rome to Italian/Germanic polities, Roman Gaul to Franks, Romano-British to Anglo-Saxon, Hispania to Visigothic and then Muslim Spain, Rome to Byzantine and whatever other combinations they choose, practically, can take place without having to model the messy details.

My hope is that Mongolia is the only civ that can be unlocked for the Exploration Age, and that only a single civ for the Modern Age can be unlocked as well, forcing most civs to progress along historical lines

I don't think such hard locks would be a good idea, I think that those paths should always be avaliable if you either have the correct leader or culture. Sure if you are playing, Maya, unlocking Mongolia better require you have a horse heavy start and earn it to unlock it. But what if you are paying Huns or Scythians (or nomad leader) Mongols should be your "historical" unlocked path from the get go.

That said, I hope the unlock conditions are really specific so that it requires a real strategic pivot and geographical bias alike. To use another example I shouldnt just be able to pick Polynesia or Hawaii, but If I'm on a very heavy island hoping start, it could be doable and make sense.

so historical paths or adjacent should be the norm, and special unlocks should require focus and effort. hopefully that's what we are getting in the end.

If it's not just the default (which it kind of sounds like it is), I hope there is also a game setup option to tell the AI to favor historical successions.

Even the economic part must be rethought: a small state like Liechtenstein or Switzerland but powerful in economy and banks avoid the formation at the end of the game Super states that also slow down the game, romance always the question of government and politics
