Simple question that I'm confused about:

When in the Trade Screen with another civ, should I only be trading those resources that I have two or more of?

Like if i have:

Pig(1)
Gold(2)
Incense(2)
Ivory(1)

Then, trading the Pig and Ivory is like trading my only source.. correct? And should therefore only trade the Gold and Incense??

In civ3 it only showed the resources that I had a surplus of, Im confused if civ4 is doing the same.

(sorry for noob question)

Yes, if you see a (1) beside a resource in your list in the trade screen, that's your only copy.

I think it's done differently in Civ 4 because it increases the total number of trade possibilities. For instance, you can trade away your only source of fur for corn from one partner, and then trade an extra iron to get fur back from another partner. The net result is you gain one corn resource that you might not have been able to get had the game prevented you from trading your sole copy of a resource.

I don't *think* the AI will send you an offer that takes away your only copy of a resource, but I'm not sure on that. I always check before I agree.

There are plenty of reasons to trade away your only resource. Let's say your cities have a ton of health but little happiness. You can trade a resource that provides health for a resource that provides happiness. Or you might want to trade away your only wines if it will enable the AI to give you a strategic resource like iron, etc.
