Rest of the leaders are up

This is despite the fact the Royal We was first used by Victoria.
Yes, I was also very dissapointed with England's greeting (as well as its leader... and its name for that matter)

Agree on the royal "we".
The greeting indeed could have been better. She had more than one memorable quotes.

Disagree on the name as the 'Virgin Queen' truly was the the Queen of England.
She is the monarch that built the foundations of Englands influence on history.

Wu's clipping sure makes it a pain to look at. Can't imagine them not clearing that up for the release.

The fact that many speculated that Elizabeth II would have a different Regnal name is a good indication that the first Elizabeth is generally perceived highly in English esteem.

I believe it was in the GameTrailers review where you can see a more recent video of Zetian. I'm not sure if she moves enough to have her robe clip in the first place, but she looks more polished, to me, than what she looks like on the Civ 5 site. :)

EDIT: At 1:03. HD Review

OK, I took a shot at Suleiman of the Ottoman Empire. He says something close to: "The Ottoman Empire greets you, stranger. I am Suleiman."

A minor correction for Suleiman.. He says "The Ottoman Nation greets you stranger." instead of Ottoman Empire. Dunno why they went with that.. Btw, that's proper "Istanbulian" Turkish. The only issue I saw with it is the lack of ambient noise, which makes it sound very very unnatural.

Alexander is really excited and Augustus is really relaxed. Augustus is all "Yeaaah, I'm emperor of Rome, no big deal." I wonder if he ever stands up, or just stays in his chair chilling out.

If I had of an eventful life as Augustus Caesar, I'd do the same. :p

Very impressed by all of them. Especially Monty. That guy is ****ing scary. Running into him in game I'll either a) run the hell away or b) instantly go about destroying him before he does the same to me. No doubt he will haunt my nightmares for many a month to come.

Oh, and Alexander reminds me of this guy:

http://www.quebecgamers.com/impressions/cdi/faces_of_evil/animation_debut2.jpg

Which probably isn't a good thing. I can't take him seriously now, which will probably be disastrous to my health, due to all his ancient era goodiness... My Boy!

I think they did a great job on the leader animations! Is anyone here interested in how the Babylonian Leader will look like and what his background will be like? From what I know of him he was a respected thinker and philosopher but waged several wars in his time too..

Wu got her cleavage back!

Raemky's background got the Khmer stature removed!

Gandhi and Catherine look a bit awkward imo.

Still excellent!

relax... you can still see the statue in the game...

Oh. Since no one translate your's "Siamese Guy" word. So I will done it myself.

He said a bit old version of Thai. The word that use to represent "I" and "You" in that time are consider as impolite nowaday. So they are good to not use it.

Well, Ramkhamhaeng said...
I am Ramkhamhaeng, King of Siam. It is honor that you are WALK (YES! WALK) to our land of Siam

Well. I serious about WALK. If you want to make him say "travel". You HAVE TO add "tarng" after "dern". I think Firaxis should postpone the release date for a week to fix everything...

...But if you do that. I will have to kill you.

Wat's icon look ridiculous too. It doesn't look like anything in or around Thailand. I hope not to see it's model in my cities.

...and Oh! Thanks a lot for get rid that statue. But I guess background is look pretty empty now.

:(

I thought this closer'd do it:

Can you not perceive the flawless logic?

I'll go back and watch more The Office and Monty Python, now, and will try not to disappoint next time.
The more I unbrave the interwebs, the more I realize I was born in a culture where you must analyse anything for sarcasm upfront. It's fun.

Sorry there szpilman.. i didnt get the sarcasm of that post or notice your signature. My bad.

Credits list him as Miro de Monteseppia. Miro isn't a very common American name, but it's possible. BTW, does he speak modern Greek, Koine Greek, Attic Greek?

Miro is actually a greek first name. De Monteseppia is NOT. Perhaps his mother is Greek. The script sounds like it's ancient Greek which is cool. His accent however is the same as any American's would be reading a foreign language. This def isnt a game breaking issue for me. I just expected a native Greek to do the reading. BTW what is this Koine Greek and Attic Greek you're referring to? There is modern greek, ancient greek and an obselete "formal" greek which was spoken from the 50's until maybe the early 80's.

Overall very good, but some speakers sound too much like voice studio, no background effects... there should be birds and bee's noise in the background! ;D

Agree... But we could nitpick forever without reaching perfection...

Washington: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

Or let's not and instead translate it into nonsensical english statements!

Songhai: "I eager to askia songhai! Ergo mean eager I delay! Ima be cooking [some african dish?], class boudicca! My potato must be mushed and dandy!"

I gotta say that last part was tough, but clearly Askia is serious about his potatoes. I think Firaxis nailed diplomacy on the head this time around, I can definitely see how the feel for the opponents will be intuitive. Clearly Askia will be one to delay and distract us with his fine cooking. The real threat from facing songhai is that Askia took the same cooking class as boudicca, In fact, I wouldn't doubt that Askia's potato recipe is actually hers!

I won't let my guard down against songhai for a second, regardless what savory delights are placed before me.

Now, Ottoman is a tricky one... the most I could translate of him was his final statement... An order no doubt. I foresee the Ottoman's being a terror in game as it's leader will stop at nothing in order to have entertainment in what is obviously his private quarters. Here's the last part of his speech;

Ottoman: "... Dance, layman!"

What his idea of a "Diplomacy" might be... I'm not interested in finding out. I will automatically go to war with Suleiman in all of my games.

...

Great Job removing the statue from Siam, guys. I think that's cool.

:goodjob:

We should have had a Queen Elizabeth like this one, from Blackadder

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc1b7GxsdO0

You ruined Elizabeth for me, now I'll always picture her like that when I meet her.

What does Russia say? Can somebody translate?

Oh that naughty Catherine. She's back! I think we all know what the [?] is... :crazyeye:

"Greetings, stranger. If your wit and grace match your good looks, we shall get along fine." :mischief:

yep, that's what she said... But I think she's too monotonous.

Attic Greek was the Greek spoken in Ancient Athens. It survived as the literary Greek language (probably what you're thinking of as Ancient Greek). Koine Greek is the Greek was the "vulgar" Greek (as in the Greek spoken by the common people) all throughout Greece and the Middle East until 9th or 10th century. It was then replaced by Medieval Greek, which led directly to modern Greek. I'm thinking "formal" Greek was probably Medieval Greek of some kind if it isn't Classical Greek.

I'm glad to hear he's speaking Ancient Greek, even if the accent isn't great (it sounds to me like he's reciting it, which makes sense, since there aren't any native speakers of Ancient Greek).

Thanks you so much! Firaxis:)

For
-removing Khmer statue at background

I am so grateful that you do this for Siam's sake!!!

However...(Do not take these seriously...this is just a little complain..but it will help you understand Thai culture a lot)
Spoiler :

1. King Ram's voice!!!
He has very clear american accent.
He speaks WRONG wrong words

This is the translation by me as Thai citizen

"I , Pho Khun Ramkamhaeng, the king of Siam. It is a great honour that you WALK to visit our country"

What! walk! are you serious? it is supposed to be TRAVEL ("dern tarng" not "dern")

2. Animation
- First you should know that in Thailand we greet each other by "Wai"
Wai is a show of respect, indicated by pressing your palms together near your chest
and bowing.
The first Wai in the animation is good!
The second HALF Wai is...quite impolite. This is CHINESE monk Wai.
if I do this Wai in Thailand, I will be reprimanded.
I normally do this Wai for fun greeting with my friend.

3. Language
King Ram in the website speaks our present king language
But king Ram's language is the OLDEST language of Siam.
I do not take this serious though.
" In his time, He spoke old languages that are now considered RUDE "

You do not have to fix anything Firaxis! This is a very good job Thanks a lot!

it sounds to me like he's reciting it, which makes sense, since there aren't any native speakers of Ancient Greek

Native modern greek speaker would be fine. The pronunciation would sound more authentic to my ears. It's not essential to gameplay so it's not a big deal anyway. I'll be curious to hear more of Alexander in the game though. I'm still glad they speak in their own languages.

I like the way that they've changed Alexie form drunken power hungry gayish bastard to Cheerful metrosexual bad boy.

Just cool. :king:
