To the Community:

Do to what is probably most kindly described as stupidity on my part, COTM 07 is a bit of a mess (Units were imported from the 'wrong' BIQ).

The problems with the Knights Templar & Statue Of Zeus are potentially tolerable / patchable, however there are other problems with the late industrial-age / modern age tech tree which means that units become available with the wrong tech (eg. Mech Infantry with recycling).

Whilst this too is patchable, I don't really see how it can be made fair for those that have either finished or got a reasonable way into the game.

I think that the best solution might be to simply restart on a new map. I can slap together a scenario with the same broad parameters and starting (visible) location, so that the pre-game discussion is still valid. However the game would play different enough that all people would be on an even footing whether they completed the current incarnation or not.

Hence: A quick poll.

Make a random map, keep the part of the start-location and we will all be utterly confused. And happy. :)

Things happens, I think this actually can break the game too much. Some people would love to have KT, and when they get curraghs on dry land they won't be happy over the shields spent.

If you keep something like the 5-8 tiles from the start save and add it to the new map, that would be sufficient.

Or why not just make a new map. We are not fussed (speaking for the community here )

I'm not too upset, I can only imagine the work behind the scenes. And mistakes happens. It's unlucky it went wrong though, it was a nice surprise.

So cheer up ainwood, we get it right the second time :)

Hmm, I'm kinda undecided about the poll, but I voted new map.

I'm with gozpel on this, both in opinion on new random map (with same/similar starting position if possible) and also in appreciation of the work that goes on in a voluntary basis.

I just started this game, I did not finsh QSC yet.
IMO this mess is a fun and I cast my vote for a first choice.
Yet I understand that it is not fair to those who played this game not knowing about this problems, therefore do not take my opinion too seriously.

I built the Knights Templar and noticed the problem. I really don't want to start again on a new map.

My biggest issue is time. I'm on vacation for the last 2 weeks of the year and most likely not playing any GOTM/COTM. (Although I would love to find a way. )

I'd prefer a patch for both the unit wonders and for late tech changes. If people want to finish as is, then they can. If we decide to complete this game with no patches, that would be ok as well.

I don't expect to many folks have gotten to the late game on this COTM or we would have heard about it before today. I just PM'ed Ainwood when I noticed it last night.

I haven't even started the game yet, still working on GOTM37, but I voted for New game - same conditions because I think it would be too much work to try to patch or fix all the individual saves.

I'll wait til the decision is made before starting.

If you are seriously thinking of a new game you should possibly remove the save so no one new starts on the old one. (I haven't checked the other threads or the GOTM page so you may have done that already.)

I voted to move on as is. I just built the Knights Templar, but less than 5 turns ago so I havent seen what units I will get :)
I will not get into modern age. Knights should be enough, so I probably will never be touched by modern era problems.

However if there are very strong feelings to restart, I would definitely play the new game as well.

I did not play far enough into the game to experience any of the flaws. A restart wouldn't hurt me.
But we have 6 submittals and 9 qsc so far. And a lot of players who still don't know that this discussion is going on. Make it public. Put a post on the news side that playing may be postponed.
A new map should keep the screenshot starting area so we can go without a new a pre-game discussion. That's what I voted.

I'm almost finished with the game but wouldn't mind a new start. I was kind of wondering when the roman city with the knights templar started spouting ancient cavalry......

I wouldn't mind. I had a spectacular military game with much fun but then I got hit on the head hard by the Ottomans (2 cities razed in one turn and I gave up seeing so many Siphais.:()

So I am all in.:D

EDIT: But only if you have the time and nerves for that. I think you're doing a great job already. I would be okay with a second, patched start on the same map, too.

Had to say "new map, same conditions", despite the amount of time I've put in so far. I'm definitely going to hit the Modern Age, and moved requirements for units might compromise my end-game.

Neil.

Restart, with completely different map. That will balance the field between those that had already started and had explored the home continent (like me) and those who haven't started yet...

I voted for option 3, new map with similar start position, although I think option 4 is fine also. I haven't even downloaded the game yet; still having fun as the Iroqouis in Gotm37!!

I would hope an extra week or so for submitting would be included in this decision?

I just finished GOTM37, so I have not even down loaded COTM07 yet.

Should I down load it and start or wait for a different one?

 I'm already in a great Industrial Era slugfest with 50+ Hussars against 50+ Sipahi...
However, since this game was insane fun, but I have no serious goal for winning (I will win this war, and will controll my landmass, but then I either have to fight a tedious oversea war, or build the SS), I agree with a new map; but please keep the concept - crowded, "friendly" neighbors, resource distribution.

Oh, could we nevertheless have the option to submit CotM7a, and get a spoiler thread/ ranking?

I am having a great time playing cotm 7 i have almost finished my game ,but i am short in time so I have chosen the first option

Restarting the game, on a new or similar map is a terrible idea : it affects people who have done nothing wrong and who are possible not even affected (much) by the error !

We all make mistakes. The honorable thing to do is to find a solution that disturbs as few players as possible - this might be different from the solution that's easiest to implement. I'm guesstimating that more people (all, actually) would be affected by a change in the early gameplay than by a change in the late-game.

My suggestions :
1. create a patch (extra file to install, or via changes to the .sav) and tell people at what time during the game-play they have to install it (if you end the game before that time, you don't need to patch)
2. people who have already submitted, or are still playing and are negatively affected by the error should receive compensation in the form of units, gold, score-adjustement or something else. Possibly on a case-by-case basis, possibly based on personal choice.

Option 2 would be the way to go if a patch is not possible.

If I may add a bit of imagery :
As a citizen in the land of COTM, my mood has begun to deteriorate from 'happy' over 'content' to 'unhappy' due to mod-weariness and imperfect start-saves. I must admit that I'm still being kept very happy by numerous luxuries such as 'QSC', 'GPR' and 'nice maps'.
Option 2 above might bring me back in a 'WLAD' mood - I'm sure I don't need to explain that abbreviation. :p :)
