Reveal Map in Civ 3

Is there a way to reveal the map at the beginning?

I want to play at higher levels but I don't want to spend hours uncovering the map only to find I'm CLOSELY surrounded by several other Civs. I'd like to create a new game and then do a quick check to see I have reasonable space to expand, before I pour HOURS into it.

No. There was a "cheat" for this in prior versions. It was removed in updated patches. It may be possible with the mac-editor (due out in the coming month or so). I don't know.

There's still a way. After playing some turns you may resign. In the replay you'll see the startingpoint of all civs and the shapes of your universe.
Not in detail though and it's somewhat timeconsuming.
The editor makes it possible for shure, I remember someone checking out maps for an AC OCC this way...
