RFC Europe: Small bugs/fixes

These are walruses, not elephants. We thought that elephants were the closest available graphic to represent them.

Thank you. I was mildly amuzed, and considering my half-drunk situation (I was having fun with Civ4 after a big birthday party) I went OMG WTH MAMMOTHS all over the place and my steam friend list, I even sent some screenies to my friends via ICQ because it seemed very funny to me.

Good News Everybody!

I have, I believe, found the source of the crash -- at least in Deon's Gustav Vasa-1522 save. The culprit appears to be the Belfry building. One of the art .dds files for this building was corrupt -- in Alpha9b it is 1K smaller than it is in the sourceforge and earlier alpha versions.

Anyhow, there's a belfry (normally) built during this turn, and replacing that art file with the correct one, I have now had 4 non-crashes in a row. I am attaching the fixed Belfry files to this post, and you should replace the folder Assets\Art\Structures\Buildings\Belfry with this one. Please let me know if this fixes things for you (and re-post games which still crash).

Thanks for your good news. Now for the bad news. I've retested all the games I've posted (including the Dandolo fix and the belfry fix) but the results are not good. While they all can load now (that's something), all bar one still crash to desktop after one or more turns. The only one that doesn't is the earlier Arabia save where I was about to meet Dandolo with my merchant. That issue seems to be resolved.
I'm still playing that game and will report if I get any more problems. I can also confirm that crashes can be automatically triggered by going into Wordlbuilder, as reported earlier. I've reposted the 2 games with crashes here. You can load these but you still crash on the next turn.

Well, it's some progress anyway. I'm sure there's another art file that got corrupt. Man, I don't know why this happened this time. I really don't think I did anything different from what I normally do to zip and post a file...

Sedna, Russian UHV doesn't account a traded atlantic access. I've conquered dutch, made them my vassal and asked them to give me atlantic access. It doesn't make me with although I have other 2 UHV objectives done.

You're right, trading for access to Atlantic Access doesn't count for this UHV. I don't recall if this was a conscious decision because we feared it might be too easy or just an oversight. Does anyone else have an opinion?

If you could make a walrus for us that would be great.

I have an opinion that oceanic access should be tradeable only via vassalage. I mean, if you are stronger than Dutch (for example), you should be able 1)Take their city and gain access; 2)vassalize them and thus make your port. Free trading shouldn't be allowed. Even without UHV it's quite easy to make Dutch to sell you this resource and build all the colonization projects without any ship.

With such terms it should be pretty reasonable to have this acceptable as UHV solution.

seems like the belfry issue fixed my problem. Played a few games and no crashes so far

Thanks for the new crashes Jessiecat. I have now checked all the art files for size with a script, and discovered the other problem file (one of the Teutonic Knight textures). I swear this is the last one. This fixed both your saves. I have updated the RFCEurope Files thread. Here is how to either update or download a full new version (note that the full version is smaller now as I have eliminated the (unnecessary) DLL source code):

Alpha 9c is now available!

To download, visit our sourceforge page and click the big green box.

Or go directly there: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rfceurope/files/RFCEurope_Alpha9c.zip/download

Initial versions (Alpha9 and Alpha9b) had a few corrupt graphics files. If you have one of these versions and get crashes, then you can also download just the fixed files at https://sourceforge.net/projects/rfceurope/files/RFCEurope_Alpha9b_patch.zip/download. Just unzip this folder, drag the contents into your RFCEurope folder, and choose to replace any duplicate files.

Just like to report that your fixes seemed to have solved the crashes. I played that Arabia game thru from 1404 without a hitch and won a UHV victory in the early 1600s. :goodjob:
(Maybe now we can focus on any remaining outstanding issues and go for Beta 1.0? :D)

Minor typo in the UHV description for Poland. Should read "happiness", not happyness.

Well spotted. Sure it's not still spelled that way in the colonies???

A minor bug but annoying. Playing as Hungary today, I got the first two UHVs in 1526 and was beelining for Free Religion, but I didn't get a triumphal arch or golden age. I thought that'd been fixed for the latest version?

Hmm, it worked for me when I tested it. Maybe there's an odd condition in which the code gets confused. Do you have a saved game?

After I won the 3rd. UHV I got rid of all my saves. Sorry.

Why not change the name of the time without "calendar" into "Early Middle Ages" ?
And why there aren't embassy like in RFC
