RFC Plays on its Own?

Thanks Panopticon that helps a lot.

I was able to beat off Turkey. Yeah! I've killed off the Mayans but am surrounded by Independent Cities. How do I cross into them? I'm having so much fun. Does the game end if I don't win any of the UHVs? I've got one left I'm trying to beat.

Thank you,
Rosy

You need to declare war on Independents to cross through them, but they're not very aggressive so you can often just walk through and they will automatically make peace soon afterwards. You can play on if you don't get UHVs and try to get other victory conditions. Check out some of the challenge threads on this forum, like Space victories with weak civs.

Hi,

I'm on MacBook Pro with a partition set up specially for this game, running Windows XP playing CIV IV BTS. I don't know how to right-click. I've tried various key commands while clicking (Ctrl-Click, Alt-Click, Option-Click, Command-Click) none of them work. I have a stack of Musketman sitting just outside the borders of an Independent City and can't get in. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Rosy

Don't use the mouse arrow (Go-To). Use the keyboard to force your units to enter the independent territory.

Hi,

I've just started to play RFC and love it. I fail all challenges but am still having fun. tee hee Whenever I switch civilizations (from India to Rome) or any switching, after I move one unit my turn automatic moves along, before I even move all units. Is this a bug? This only starts to happen after I switch civilizations. What's going on?

Also RFC seems so hard to make any of the challenges.

And what is the difference between and RFC unlocked scenario and not?

And what is the difference between a scenario and a Mod?

Thank you,
Rosy
yes, thats a particular bug that happens, you can stop it by changing your turn

I am not sure if it works with xp on partitions, but I have a macbook pro running vista and I right click by holding two fingers down on the mouse pad and clicking.

What's up with Independent Cities taking over my territory. I'm playing Greece, everything is wonderful, lots of men, the Great Wall, then Germany invades. I kill them off and take his land. Everything is really good. Then all of a sudden all my cities except Athens is taken over by Independent. Everything gone. I try to take them back, but lost most of my men. Research is basically stopped. What happened? Is this a bug? Very upsetting.

It's a feature of the game. If your empire becomes unstable a civil war could happen and you lose all cities except the capital.
Instability can happen mostly due to expanding your empire to places not historically possesed by your empire IRL (much like happened to you with conquering Germany).

If I go back to an auto save before the collapse and war with Germany will everything happen again? Will Germany still declare war? Next time I won't keep the cities I'll just wipe them out. I had to fight, Germany gave me no choice and didn't want Peace.

How do you boost your Economy? What buildings do I build in my cities that help the Economy?

How long does a Plague last? I never seem to survive one. My cities eventually change to Independent after several turns.

What are the best Civics for good stability?

What are the best Technologies for a good Economy?

What are the best Wonders to get for a good Economy?

Thanks :)

Yes, it is likely (though not definite) that Germany will declare war on you again if you do that. But I wouldn't recommend wiping out too many cities, since each city you raze takes away stability points. If you have to fight Germany, try to play a defensive war. Destroy any units they send toward you, but don't launch any attacks on their cities (or if you want to just to kill some of their units, make sure they still keep the city). If you can, drag someone else like France or Russia into the war on your side. Eventually the Germans will get tired of fighting you and will accept a peace deal.

You want to build granaries, courthouses, markets, grocers and banks in all your cities. Also, building lots of cottages on your grassland and plains tiles is a good idea. There aren't any technologies or wonders that will directly improve your economic stability. Read the "Economy category" section of the stability guide for a list of what will help and what will hurt your economic stability.

An important part of it is growth. You want your population, agriculture and industry to grow. You want your cottages to grow into towns. If you have to conquer more land to increase your population, try to take land that Greece historically owned in the past (there is a map here). You'd be much better off conquering Turkey, Persia or Egypt than Germany or some other European nation. But don't expand too much or too quickly.

How long does a Plague last? I never seem to survive one. My cities eventually change to Independent after several turns.
It varies, but they usually last about 4-9 turns. Make sure you have enough units in each city so you still have some defense after the plague takes its toll, and try to have aqueducts in all your cities. Also research Medicine ASAP, since that technology will make your empire immune from all future plagues.

What are the best Civics for good stability?
It depends on what civics you have available at your tech level, and what you are trying to do with your empire. Basically, certain combinations of civics work well together for your stability (like Representation + Bureaucracy, or Emancipation + Free Religion) and some combinations are inherently unstable (like Emancipation + Theocracy, or State Property + Vassalage). Read the "Civics category" section of the stability guide for more info.

But try to change your civics as few times as possible. Every turn of anarchy gives you a permanent stability hit. It's best to change civics only two or maybe three times before you discover Radio and build Cristo Redentor (which erases the anarchy between civics changes).

Me dislikes UHV's and plagues. Me is controversial and original.

Building any wonder (world or national, not sure about projects) increases your stability and is counted under the cities section.
And as I stupidly forgot and blizzrd kindly mentioned, several wonders do increase your economic rating, namely the ones he mentioned, though others like the Temple of Artemis and Sistine Chapel seem to also affect it.

A big part of the economy rating is that your economy is constantly improving. RFC will add up you production, science, and gold output every so often and if it's better than last time, you get an economic stability bonus, otherwise you take a penalty. Don't worry too much about this because the bonus is pretty small, but over time you should be slowly improving your economy.

Another good way to improve stability is to build courthouses as much as possible, even in your capital, because they provide a bonus is cities stability. If you have a decent amount of cities, this can really help put your stability on track. The lower mantainence will help your economy, too, for a double benefit.

There are also a number of techs and civics that will adjust stability in many different ways. The stability guide at the wiki will explain this which ones. You can also look at Stability.py for exact numbers if you can read Python.(If not you still might be able to get something out of it because it is fairly easy to understand)
