When playing as Rome, there are two spots for potentially good cities in north africa, garama and anabucis, one for uranium and another for oil. However, last time I played, the sudden appearances of barbarian camel archers and elephants couldn't get more annoying, I also felt that I settled too early (as oil and uranium are only useful late in the game). Does anyone know more or less in what year (if any) barbs stop spawning in Africa?

RFC has its own subforum. Under Civ4 creation and customization --- project and mod development

But, well, you have to cope with it. Maybe rush for a great engineer, send it over, build a city, and build the great wall there. And send more military units to counter the natives. Archers.

About year 0 or before. You have to be ready for them when they appear. Although not too nunerous, they are a problem. South of the Sahara, you get constant, numerous Impis before that. Further, the Impis are Natives, so the Great Wall won't keep them out. The good thing is, the types of natives are predictable. Impis in subSaharan Africa and Dog Soldiers in the new world.

The barbarians will stop somewhere around 1000AD. The natives never stop.
