RHQ Artificially Intelligent AI Mod

RHQ Artificially Intelligent AI Mod RHQ AI Mod 2.07

One slight disappointment in the patch (overall impression is indeed satisfying) - they still don't manage to build their unique quarters.

Here's an excellent AI Immortal Carthage (they struggled with it before) - he came out of Antiquity with 9/7 settlements and a military victory - but still put the Cothon to the left of the city centre and the Dock to the right. (His towns had solitary Cothons as well.)

Yeah, that wasn't part of what changed, so not all that surprising. There are still issues. But the military situation is so vastly improved, it really is a marvel.

So good to hear - thanks so much for checking so quickly!

In that case I will play this base game all the way thru before starting a new modded game. Since release I only played 1 full base game, rest all modded! 17 ANT + 11 EXP + 3 MOD w/ mod. Time to give the base game another try.

I stick to deity and Cont / Cont+ maps to keep things as even as possible. Of course as we know: start location + leader/civ + AI opponents/mood are the biggest variables that determine how a game goes. It’s complex to jump to conclusions like “I played base game and won/ lost, thus mod must be good/bad” etc.

Will you update the mod changelog with what you removed? p1 of this thread has 50+ bullets, I am guessing most of them remain?

Thanks again for all your work!
I've updated the changelog which removed all the Military operations changes, and Diplomacy changes for now.

It makes the most sense to be as base game as possible there, and adjust from the new place we are at. The difference is massive. I cannot understate it.

AI armies are better than at any point pre patch, with the mod. That's how large of a change it is.

Wow thanks a lot, all good news! There’s still a lot in there!

May be a while before you hear any feedback from me as I have 3 ages of base game to play thru.

P.s. btw at top still says 2.04 instead of 2.06

Sorry about that, I'll fix.

It's all good, take your time and enjoy the game.

Is there a way to increase the aggressiveness of the ai? Even if they are hostile and well prepared at the border, no one wants to go to war.(Please forgive me for filming with my mobile phone, I am playing civ at this time😂

I am streaming on twitch now while I mod with autoplays if you're interested in that kind of thing

AI Changes from the patch

  • New Great Person AI system
  • Several new Behavior Tree updates which I will have to test out, but look fantastic.
  • Settling Tree changed - Dropped down a lot of nodes that were causing issues. Excited to see this improvement.
  • City Attack Tree changed
  • Great Person Trees radically improved, new additions, changed.
  • Small typo they've added on a new Data Node, but doesn't harm anything.
  • They fixed the very first Behavior Tree issue that I did with the AI Mod. Hell yeah. They did it differently, but same result! Several fixes for issues in the AI Mod are now fixed in the base game.
  • Time Limits for waiting for AI attacking Independents implemented so they won't wait indefinitely stuck.
  • Most Time Limits for waiting dropped from 10 turns to 3 turns. (although funny enough, they went from indefinite in the independent to 10 turns.. i will probably drop that to 3 for consistency.)
  • This is a MASSIVE one. The City Attack tree now requires the target to be hostile! I fixed this in a different way than the tree, but it was buggy. This should fix entire AI armies stuck on the map after an independent is removed. Great change.
There's also a new Independent tag that says

"AI needed tags - please ask awg or jfc before using"

If AWG or JFC from Firaxis reads this, can you please DM me a brief description of this.. I think I can assume from it, but it would be helpful!

There are a ton of AI changes in here. They are massively underselling it.

I am playing the vanilla game and it does feel like a totally different game from before.. much harder. Did the patch make changes to AI diplo / aggressiveness at all? Everyone hates me and and denouncements, alliance flipping, DoW are rampant, both ANT and EXP

And now that the AI fights better, it does pose an actual threat, I cannot just hide behind my walls and watch the AI botch its own operations. My pre-patch strategies are out the window. I'm having to dedicate actual resources to defending; the AI is hindering my progress.

This is great and what we want of course but I didn't want to read too much into it, maybe it's just luck of the draw in this map?

Edit: also first game I noticed an AI alliance dissolve. In all my previous games once ally always an ally , but not this one. May be luck as well. I use global relations mod and watch diplomacy very closely all my games.

A major bug was fixed that stopped war declarations. Thus you're actually seeing how the game was supposed to perform.

Thank you for confirming and WOW, in that case I’m loving this even more!

Edit: I try to refrain from posting non-mod related stuff in this thread, but since you studied the patch changes so closely you are the expert on this. 😊

So, the devs really underplayed the AI changes here. Either this really bodes well for the upcoming patches and efforts by the AI devs -- or they are basically taking what the community is doing and fusing it into the official set. Either way, it is better than what we saw with Civ 6 and Civ 5.

It's not just what I am doing. It's better.

They have documentation and tools. I was trying to fix the bug, and they did it. I sort of hacked some of them to be less painful, but they actually got it to function much better. Bravo to the team.

Spent time today trying to find a way to stop the civs from giving up cities for peace. i see nothing. It just doesn't seem available unless I'm missing something.

Civs give up cities when they don't need to, and it becomes self fulfilling to get out of wars.

Just got the AI to win via Space Race. turn 110 on quick, but still an achievement. I need to speed it up
Played 4 deity modern games pre patch and achieved culture victory in all of them by T47 - 57, standard speed. (All you need is gold for that victory, not even culture necessarily. Civ choice, ideology, none of that really matters as long as you channel 100% of gold/prod to victory)

So yeah the AI needs to pick up the speed in Modern because its really a “lightening speed” victory sprint the way it’s currently designed.

Edit: also took end of game screenshots of AI performance at the end of those 4 games , for the record and future benchmarking

I can't force the ai to spend it's gold on certain things. So it becomes a real problem to try and make the AI use it's gold to achieve a goal.

That is very good hear hear about the devs. I started a game yesterday (including your version 2.06) -- and I am seeing absolute improvement in tactical combat AI.

Modern age aside, as mentioned a few days earlier in my above post, I am having the most challenging game EVER post patch vanilla. In the middle of EXP rn and it’s playing very different from all my previous games, for reasons we discussed that makes the AI so much better and threatening. It’s a blood bath beyond imagination. I’m actually feeling ‘stressed’ playing the game, having to think my every move, losing units. As you said this was how deity was supposed to be. Huge huge step change.

If this is vanilla then this means with your mod it’s going to be phenomenal.

Also once I play modern with this game, gonna see how things are different because I’ll likely be light years behind some of the leading AI. Maybe they’ll outspend me to victory, who knows!

They certainly have a whole lot more yields, and go after victory conditions more.

I have a beta I am working on trying to make things better. Everything in lots of areas works so well now, a lot of time I'm trying to track down issues only to learn it's impossible for me to improve them.

Like the AI not giving up cities in peace deals.
