Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

@ Aeon221: Not a bad idea at all, I'll try it with my new England game (I don't have enough time anymore for more than a few turns at a time with America, as interesting as it is! :( ). Life-like colonization, here I come!

->those rules seem good for a future Colonization RMC. For example, you take portugal and have -2 for each city founded in Europe except the first; -5 for each city conquered in Europe, etc. I don't know what's exactly Blasphemous planning but I know that's not an Euro challenge. It could be a nice proposal for the next MC, though.

->Fileplanet? I don't need that for now. I've already 3 places hosting it.

->Aeon, the error you said about the musketeer or musketman....does it cause the game to quit?

About the strength scale:
if you want something more accurate, we could divide the strenght in 2 bars:
Easiness to manage and Potential strength

or into one word and one bar:
Difficulty level: {very hard, hard, moderate, easy, very easy} and the bar of the potential strangth scale.

or into 4 bars:
Starting Location, UUs, traits, religious traits.

Or we can simply leave it as it is, but correct some of the ratings.

Rhye said:

I would go with that one.

Edit: Maybe something like this (I do not have experience with Mongolia):

Egypt - Hard
Germany - Easy
America - Hard
England - Very Easy
Arabia - Easy
Ethiopia - Very Hard
Byzantines - Moderate
Inca - Hard

What do you all think?

I think we need either a two bar system, or a caveat that this is for beginners, and that experienced players should make their decisions based on their style of play.

However, I think the best way to give the rating would be to ask for the player to use the four different categories of UU, Starting Location, Traits, and Religious bonuses.

Rhye, do you think that the Great Wall should be restricted to China? I managed to build it, but it really was not worth a race against Japan.

China with Maggie's Voyage is brilliant! I can get my cruddy galley to Europe in half the time now!

About the portugese/dutch thing: I didnt mean to put it up as an idea for one of the monthly ones! Sorry! I wasnt thinking straight right then... you know... so I was just like hey I have an idea!

I hope you kids try it, but im way more excited about the monthly challenge thing! (although im gonna wait an see what the goals are before I go yea/nay on playin in it) ;p

I hope to finish preparing the RMC in time, but worst comes to worse, we'll make it on the first Sunday of every month and not the 1st of the month... My weekends are Fri-Sat so I'll always be free to prepare a game in time for a Sunday... I don't think there's much left to do, but there is one aspect I haven't gone into yet.
Also, I like the idea of a colonization RMC, even if you didn't intend to propose an idea for that originally.

Its hard to do. Ive been playin as the Dutch, and thank RHYE for the ironless Swiss Mercs, because otherwise I would have nothing to attack with. Trying to expand my resource base (got some Elephants! Woohoo! 43GPT is AMAZING!)

Im not the top tech dog, but I am hot on their tails. However, if I was ever attacked by a European power I would go down in about five seconds. My home army is pathetic.

My colonial army includes a army with 3 Swiss Mercs in it, and is all high tech (muskets and mercs, top of the line for the era).

Still, I have only 12 soldiers... and four ships. Its stretched thin, but it can hold the line and grab me weak, resource rich cities.

Cogs are bloody brilliant. I was able to smash my competition (the Greeks) with them by holding the entrance to the med and killing everything that came through. Talk about forcefully controlling the spice trade ;p

I am worried about the weak France to my south. If they go down, I lose my buffer against Spain... who IS a monster, with over 21K in gold...

If you plan to play this, you really do have to build the Great Library and trade for your life. If you start to fall behind in tech, you will NEVER catch up. Your cities are too small and spread out. The only real hope you have is to beat up on weaklings and attempt to establish yourself as the go-to guy for the rarer resources.

Right now, my personal goal is to control the elephant trade, and then start moving in on the diamond and spice trade.

Its a tough game, but if you like playing on the edge with a weak power, go for it!

Blas, with the RMC, you should post a save game with most/all of the resources and goodyhuts moved around. That way itll be harder to exploit the biq

I would say Byzantines are hard because the are in a crowded space(Greeks to the south Ottomans to the right and Austrians to the left

My cities are so strong that countless attacks on them are deflected
an Update on foreign relations
England attacked my biremes and my Galleasses but to no avial it sparked a huge war with western europe and me except the spanish and the portugese(even though the spanish are in a war with me ALL the time because of the terriotorial gains in spain I do not consider them in the war because they were in a war with me before england attacked france and netherlands)I destroyed the Portugese before, and I got help from the Scandinavians to destroy england, but then england longbows withstood constant attacks for Numidian Mecenaries Carthaginian Fusiliers,Carthaginian Fanatics Viking beserkers Viking Knights Dutch arnys(I have no idea what units they used) But France is bacicly North Italy now its been pushed back severly and Paris is the only western city that they own. I took over Nottingham then the war ended when the rest of my warriors were killed Scandinavia ended 4 terns later and France is suddenly fighting with everyone in Eastern europe and england. The Netherlands took over London,Hastings and a City of england near amsterdam, then england pleaded peace and the war ended completly after 3 more turns.

Recenly I found America and started Colonizing Florida and the Gulf of mexico Islands.
Rome attacked Greece and since I got a lot of resoures and luxiries from greece I attacked Rome and Rome was divided into two areas of attacking. Some Legionaries and Ballistas attacked Carthage but I didnt Flinch. I offered Peace for Greece was safe that the Romans withdrew.

Many Barbarians attacked me during my exploration in North America but no units were killed except one explorer

One thing I dont like in this scenario is the Settler getting harder to make I mean WHATS WITH THAT.

aeon - i think you're waaaay overcomplicating the rating system. two kinds of ratings on four different measures? that's fine for an experienced player, but these guides are meant to help newbies.

imo, three-crowns has the right solution. 5-pt scale on difficulty to manage.

EW

Haha, I love complicated stuff. You could probably reduce it to one bar if you required people to submit data on all that stuff.

I meant a word + a bar.

Like say
America= hard and 4.5/5
Arabia= easy and 4/5

or otherwise

America= hard + 5/5 starting location; 1.5/5 UUs; 4/5 traits (including religious traits, so there are only 3 bars).
Arabia= easy + 4/5 starting location; 3/5 UUs; 3/5 traits

The values are just an example, they are probably wrong.

Sorry people, RMC1 will be ready by Sunday at latest, I just had a busy couple of days today and yesterday...

Just cuz I feel like sharing, check this out:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/William_of_the_Dutch,_1828_AD.zip

Its the game I am playing as the Dutch. The year is 1828, and despite my empire's small size, I am the tech and income leader... thanks in no small part to the AI willingness to allow me to broker all tech trades...

Since everyone is becoming poor or falling behind in tech I am no longer a net exporter!

But I am preparing to grab the world rubber trade by the berries ;p

With the highest per capita income in the world, and the second highest approval rating, the Dutch people are the happiest and richest in the world. Their tiny colonial empire is the dynamo that spins the world.

Army: 12 rifles, 1 3 Swiss Merc army
Navy: 3 SoL, 3 Galleons (VERY important! its impossible to ship soldiers from Amsterdam without them!)

Workforce: 5 real workers, plus innumerable slaves. We kicked Mayan butt! ;p

I am sharing this because I am utterly flabbergasted that this is possible (it is on Demigod, so that may be why... better tech skills by the AI means more possible trades). The mod makes possible, and profitable, a style of play which is absolutely impossible in the standard game. If that isnt cool, I have no clue what is ;p

well... that, and pink elephants ;p

Isnt it fun? It is wayyy easier than I thought it would be!

Had to share this:

Playing as Portugal. The year is 3900BC. My scout walks into the goody hut in Gibraltar.

A little message pops up. "The XXX have joined your civilization as the city of Oporto!"

... my thought: sveeeet!

It was EXACTLY where i wanted it! I am now going to win the game by luck!
