Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

Well, if one really tried, they could get a very high RMC score relatively peacefully... They'd just have to really milk those general and colonization bonuses... They could also conquer Israel, Babylon and Egypt for the bonus (in the former case) and the goals (in the two latter cases) and possibly take out the Byzantines in time for that goal... That would give the player a large enough area to play peacefully and get a lot of game score, which would eventually net a lot of RMC pts.

That is true. But ironically my people are the happiest while I'm off invading other countries :), and due to massive population and territory my "score" is nearing the 2000 plaeteu.

For an update into my game.

It is currently the year 1700AD and I've finally driven all my competators off of the main continent. Only Russia, Scandenavia and England remain intact. The Dutch still have one city just south of Moscow, but it is just a matter of time till my armies have crushed their resistance.

Spain, Rome, and Portugal all fell easily and none can question my world dominence. My allies in China and Japan are currently buying the resources and luxuries that I'm pillaging from the European main land.

The ottomans foolishly were talked into decarling war against me by the Vikings. In the space of one year, I crushed there entire offensive army with just the troops maintaining my homeland. Vetearns of the Iberian Wars and green soilders from Medina and Bagdhad have now encircled Sogut. Once my Fanatics of Mecca and Crusaders of Rome arrive I will destroy the Ottomans once and for all. Let this be a lesson to all the other Islamic states in the region. For I am magnaimous to my friends and ruthless against my enemies.

For a victory update.
I have 11 percent of the world area and 30 percent of the world population. I'm hoping that my conquest of Russia, England and the Vikings will result in the required amount for a domination victory.

For a recap
Bsytines, Greeks, Austrians, Germans, French, Spainish, Porteguese, and Romans are all destroyed.
Dutch have one remaining city.
English, Vikings, and Russia are untouched. But none have any colonies, or cities outside of their areas.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish this route in the next day or so, and then start on one of the other ones :).

Where did the navigation tech go, is there any way to trade world maps? Also, can anyone tell me how to use Rhye's 180x180 world map with the mod + expansion? And... oh ya with 31 civs its pretty hard to keep track of everything is there any way to easily tell who is all at war with who? And is there any way to get rid of Byzantium? I just can handle playing as Rome and competing with...myself. Thanks!

Now I'm confused about the scoring for the RMC1.

I thought we had to choose one of the three routes. But from what you say it sounds like we can combine goals from one route with goals from another.

If I did as you say, conquered Babylon (the eastern route), Egypt (the African route), and Byzantines (the European route) would all of those points add up in my score? Or would I only get points on the route where I accumulated the most points? (plus the general and colonisation bonuses)

I also have the same question as in the previous post:
Can thus be golas comined from various routes???

Or is that if I play GENERAL (no route taken) but I fulfill 1-2 goals from a ROUTE,
then it is technically so that I play that route, just that I fulfill many GENERAL bonuses? :)
Therefore logically: I HAVE to take a route - only I can chose
not to fulfill any - or only a few - of its points

Ah, and I read I have to make a save after victory...
Is is that when I get the victory pop up, and the replay and all, then after it
I say "couple more turns" and make a save?

The "Routes" are just a method of grouping goals and bonuses. Some bonuses refer to completion (or non-completion) of certain routes, but you don't actually have to choose a route... You can try and complete two routes at once, but you would miss out on some bonuses (like the 250pts in the African route for not going into Europe and north Asia.)

Yes.

Thank you. That makes me much happier. It's 690, we're Islamic, and the conquests are about to begin.

Ah, then lets say I do Eastern Route - can I then fulfill Europeans, as well? The readme says nothing against it! :)

And also the same applies to European Route... or doing African and also some Eastern...

Umm, then what is the point in having"routes" - I am confused now - pls help! I wanna go home SOON and play this! :) (at work now)

The routes just gives you a hint for what you are getting points for.

What about Constantiople? Belongs this city Europe or Asia? I try the african route and dont want to get an european city. ;)

I posted a map showing the boundaries between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Use that for reference (it's a couple pages back.)

This looks really fun, and I'd like to participate, but every time I try to either download the link that Rhye posted or view the webpage in Blasp's sig, the download speed is rounded to 0.0 KB/s (it's not exactly 0 but it must be under 50 bytes a second... and it always cancels halfway through which produces a corrupted zip file). I'm not complaining; I can understand if bandwidth is at a premium. But, can anyone tell me the best time to download the file? I have a DSL connection that averages 80 KB/s, so I don't think the problem is on my end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :(

Hy! today I played my first time this mod (with xp)
The first five or six games i could not build another city because my (guarded!) settlers were always killed either by barbarians or my neighbours...
Well then I had a game as Germany in Europe but removed Netherlands and Austria. This had some good effects like France was able to build 4 cities in Europe continent (I think this is in any kind neccesarry to stand later against bigger civs like the chinees) and I was also able to do so, and what is more important I had access to the sea.
Well the game went on fine (but why cant the game show the year properly it's always Nov...) and I had some fights with France, England and Norway but then somewhen Persia declared war on my (the hell knows why)got russia for a military alliance against me. Next turn Russia made Rome joining them. (I tried to find allies for my but no chance the price would have been to high) Again one turn later Rome made Byzanz and Persia made China join their alliance and so on and so on
In the end I was in war with 22 Nations and not able to get some usefull peaceterms.
At least my I was technical superior and able to get Zepelins relatively soon so I bombed them back to Nirvana.
After a while I was able to go offensiveand conquered France but then the timer appeared and just 20 turns were left.
Last but not least China and Egypt defeated my by score but one turn later Berlin reached the 13000 Cultural border....
Nice mod! a lot of good ideas but I think my first games were not as succesfull as they could have been so I will ´have to play on and whatch if it runs better next time...

Ok, after missing the 0AD goals, I finally decided that I would take the route east, mainly because Persepolis looked like such a great city to take - all that production - and Egypt, Byzantines, Greece (likely first conquests on the other routes) were not as appealing.

Three things I've learned, or am wondering about...

1) Governments with low war-weariness may not be required. With the ansar warriors, it is a very rare event (so far) to have a casualty; they always retreat if in trouble, and they usually win. I've been on theocratic monarchy during my Babylon-Persia-India conquest stage, but I'm starting to think, is this necessary? Maybe I should have stayed on oligarchic republic, which I used for a while to buy a lot of infrastructure.

Question: Do you get war weariness if you are not having casualties?

2) There are some disadvantages to conquering a nation to quickly: I went through Persia in a few turns with 12 ansar warriors, and when I took their new capital, it hadn't had time to build up culture (and was size 1) so I destroyed it instead of capturing it. Same problem now in India (see screenshot below): my army is sitting around polishing their saddles because Bombay (India's second capital) hasn't culturally expanded. I'd really like to have that city-site, and I don't want to have to build a settler, so what can I do but wait?

3) Mangudai travel through jungles - as well as the mountains mentioned in the civilopedia, which is a real pain (again see screenshot). They haven't declared yet, though I kind of want them too, 'cause they're next. But defending Bangalore will be difficult, and not worth it. Oh well, I was going to abandon it anyway, but I was hoping to wait until Delhi grew more and could handle the inherited unhappiness.

Anyone having similar problems?

By the way, this is a great game. Blas and Rhymes, the goals make it much more fun. And the Black Stone rocks! - never knew it.

@vandetta - Trading maps comes with astronomy, as does Magellan's voyage. And I think there is a No Byzantines version of the mod you can download through the mod site.

Danger Bird, iirc, it's enough to have even one point of culture for the city not to be destroyed... So as long as you wait one turn after it becomes the capital, you will be able to keep it.

Rhye, is this a big enough error for a new patch? ;)

thanks for the info - mangudais ignoring jungle cost wasn't my intention
No, they don't ignore the cost. But they move through it, which I wasn't expecting.

Maybe that's unavoidable with the editor. I think you made most units 'wheeled' so they can't pass through mountains, jungle, etc., right? So if Mangudai are 'unwheeled', they will be able to pass through. Maybe not: I don't know the editor very well.
