The funeral took place today of Richard Sharp - one of the great names of Diplomacy. A big turnout, filled the crematorium - and a sizeable contingent of games players - almost a who's who of the "hard core" from the 1970s, who founded PBM games in the UK. Unlike most funerals I'm told it was a fairly uplifting event, celebrating Richard's wit and positive attitude to life.
I never met him ftf but played a couple of postal games in the seventies against him and his book 'The game of Diplomacy', though idiosyncratic in some ways, remains a classic.
