Rick Perry in his most upbeat and confrontational public speech appearance yet!

I was thinking along similar lines, but I don't think it is all that uncommon. I think the carefully created image of Rick Perry that we see in the political ads and during debates may very well be the real false personality. Of course, the videos of him becoming violent or acting in aggressive ways towards those who disagree with him is also part of that personality.

Never found Obama funny. He has that polished slickness, though.

The correspondent's dinner takes a much more morbid tone, especially Obama laughing at the jokes about not knowing where bin Laden is, when you realize he just put a hit out on the guy.

I think the difference is that Obama seems more... natural (is that the word I'm looking for?) when speaking.

i approve of your observations. Obama, despite his shortcomings, is a really articulate and intelligent man. sometimes i wonder how calling him the "teleprompter king" is a valid insult. his balls to the wall appearance in the Republican caucus held last year is proof and demonstration of his slickness and panache.

but Obama is not very good at being funny. to get his humor you have to unravel several layers of whatever before you get the joke.

Some people appreciate that.

GWB's humor is much more direct.

President Clinton. of course, wrote a very successful presidential memoirs with 10,000 pages or something. I'm thinking of doing something really fun and creative for mine. You know, maybe a pop-up book.
But I'd love to see both of them doing celebrity roasts on Comedy Channel.

Yep. Too contrived. At least politicians like Perry make us laugh even when they are not trying to do so.

stand up comedy requires a lot of effort and hard work. but Perry apparently is a master of the craft. he only has to find his way to the podium on his two feet. when he does his appearance on stage is the punchline

Perry has served three terms as governor-elect of Texas. so i give him all benefit of doubt on this one. i just can't wrap my mind around the idea that an entire state would permit to suffer this man to rule over the affairs of the state for that long.

i guess it's just one of those days. nobody's perfect all the time. :p

A Democrat will not be elected in Texas at this point in time and the GOP alternatives are actually worse than Perry.

Do people still think Obama is either funny or charming?

He's very eloquent and probably one of the best public speakers to ever hold the office. He can be funny and charming when he wants to.
