Riddles

i'm new in this thread, so forgive me if this has been proposed before. do the trains perhaps collide at some point out of the scope of the question?

as to the rope question: easy. the rope isn't tied to anything!:D

@ Perfection: No, they don't hit a third train. I refer you to my diagram on the previous page.

@ WillJ: No, neither train is hollow. They can be whatever you want (passanger, freight, whatever), but are not hollow.

@D&G, Noldodan: :thumbsup:

@Noldodan: Welcome! Jump in any time. . . this train one is pissing me off. Personally, i think every time we hit the answer D&G changes it. . . j/k D&G ;)

@ Noldodan: Nope, they don't collide at all. Perhaps at some distant point in time waaay out of the scope of this riddle, but at this time, on this track, they do not collide when they reach a common point.

@ Perfection: No, they didn't brake. I mentioned that several times throughout this thread already. Didn't break/stop in any way, shape, or form.

Hmm, does one train start going backwards right before it's about to collide with the other train?

@ Perfection: On just the previous page, I said they do not derail.

Now, how would one go about jumping one train over the other? Anyhow, it isn't correct...

@ WillJ: Going backwards would require slowing down/stopping. Therefore, it is incorrect.

wait... reaching a common point is the DEFINITION of a collision!

Exactly. And the point of the riddle is that they do not collide. I am asking you how this is possible. :D

One train turns off the track at an intersection?

A common point isn't necessarily mile marker six of the track. A common point could be "two miles away from the other train" or somesuch. So while they're on a common point, that common point isn't the same point relevant to the track. Therefore, they haven't collided yet.

@ turner: It's been mentioned before, + i refer you to my post a couple posts up. They have reached a common point on the track, yet they have not collided, nor will they collide AFAIK.

Common point- by that I mean they are on the same spot of the track at the same time.

@ CrackedCrystal: Intersection? Mentioned before, nonetheless. They stay on the same track.

Ok, show of hands. . . who's up for a road trip to Chicago to go up and say "Hi" to D&G???? Anyone? Anyone?
