I have had an extremely annoying ongoing problem with Civ VI ever since vanilla and I am surprised to not see it ever being addressed. Whenever I get event popups on the right side of the screen, I right-click them to go away. However, right-click is also the command to move a unit, and it often sends my units where I don't want them to go. How can I change the interface so right-clicking events away doesn't move my units?

Start at the button and click them as they fall down. Starting at the top is suicide man.

Alternatively, don't click them at all. All but the most prominent will disappear with a next-turn click.

Make sure you don't have a unit selected by first left-clicking on an empty tile on the map.
The things this UI makes you do and go through, though...

If you turn off auto unit cycle, you shouldn’t have any units selected at the beginning of your turn.

Alternatively, move all of your units first, still turning iff auto cycle.

I’ve never seen this be an issue. But I *have* sent a unit on a vacation while opening the report menu.

A right-click will only move your units if the click misses the notification.

One thing that can force you to miss is if the UI is busy doing something else and shifts mid-click; the way to avoid this is not to try to dismiss notifications during the AI turn or while something else is happening.

That said, Civ VI has one of the most appallingly bad UI's I've seen in a modern game. Among many faults, its tendency to automatically move the camera to the next unit/notification/whatever even after you've manually moved the camera or selected a different unit is infuriating and inexcusable.

This happens to me too. For whatever reason I got into the habit of dismissing all of them every turn, and I accidentally move troops at least once a game, usually do to a lagspike, as mentioned above. I'm trying to get into the habit of not dismissing them, but it ain't easy to break the habit, especially since not all of them go away at the end of the turn. I recommend making a conscious effort to pay attention to what goes away automatically and what doesn't. For example, I know to manually dismiss war and peace declarations. It's a pain, but I feel like memorizing which ones go away and which ones don't helps me. Or at least makes the tedium of dismissing 15 declarations of war between city states allied with warring civs more mentally stimulating. (Seriously, I get that knowing Gilgabro declared war on Poundmaker is important, but I don't need to know that Akkad declared war on Vatican City, especially since there's an ocean between them.)

Click on the number, 15 in your example, and all 15 will be dismissed in one go.
I only right click-away persistent ones: wonders built, pillaged tiles, loyalty flips, maybe something else. All others, including declarations of war and peace, go away on their own, so why bother.
And do disable unit auto-cycling in the settings, your life will change for the better immediately.
