Right mechanics, wrong civilization?

I suggest avoiding a unitcombat change, however, as that does odd things to promotion availability.

No, it does awesome things to promotion availability. Knights with Shock II, City Raider III and March for the win

A unitcombat change is essential to make things work properly, generally. So that the Formation promotion will work. And so that shock would cease to work against such a unit. On that note actually, the prereq for Formation should be moved to Combat I. It's currently Combat II which is illogical and gives mounted units an unfair advantage.

I can see some potential issues with mages though. I suppose that arcane units shouldn't change unitcombat, as the spellsphere promotions availability are based on unitcombat, not unitclass. But aside from arcane units, I think unitcombat changes are a good way to go.

What about flanking? I don't think it is currently utilized by any units, but the tags are sitting there.

Flanking sounds fun, and good to add. Maybe add the capability to some hippus-specific promos?

Good ideas. The first one is easy...second one might be a little tricky to write.

City strength penalty...I agree. Should be global for mounted units, actually. I'm considering an auto-acquire promotion for all mounted units that does just that.

I like the idea of Horsemanship negating the Unskilled rider promotion Warkirby, also the concept of open ground being the playground of mounted units. That could make the few foot units still relevant for unfavourable terrain.

They should have a city strength penalty. Also for balance would their foot units need tweaking? Such as lower str, unreliable promotion (to represent their second class status?)

The arcane issue can be worked around I'm sure. Probably just by having a different version of the promo.

What about UU for the Hippus? There is Griffon Rider art in the database...

I don't think a griffon rider is a good idea. Personally, I think the hippus should stick to horses (and nightmares). Leave the strange beast riding to doviello.

Yeah, fantasy lore wise Griffons love the taste of horses so the hippus probably hate them.

Not sure if the models work but what do you think about a Jinete type unit for the Hippus?

Dude a guy on a horse that teleports could be sick.

Mounted javelineer would be cool...but maybe more appropriate for Doviello?

I was thinking of giving the Nihrain horses flying. Would allow them to cross water/mountains/etc.. They don't look any different than horses, so no new art needed. Could even be a late promotion.

As for teleportation...I have the beginnings of a new civ idea that extensively uses the teleportation mechanics. Fairly neglected area right now... :p
