Does the right of passage expire after a certain time, or do you have to go to war with the group you gave this to? I have tried to go back and remove the right of passage from my active agreements, but I cannot (I don't know how much time has elapsed since I concluded it).

There's nothing in the Civ-o-pedia or manual about it that I can find.

BTW: if you saw the ZOC thread I wrote, these are different guys. The greeks won't stay put, the egyptians (with 2 cities) I gave the right of passage.

It expires after 20 turns.

What you do is meet with the leader. Go to the bargaining screen, and click on the "Active" tab at the bottom. You'll see what's in effect. Just right click on "Right of Passage" and it will revoke it from that moment on.

Be careful not to do this with a peace treaty, especially if you are dealing with a hothead like Shaka or Alexander. They are likely to declare war on you then and there.

Also, never use a right of passage to begin a war, like sending all your troops inside the line and attacking them, because from then on, nobody will trust you with a ROP movement. Sometimes this really sucks because in one of my games i was trying to eliminate Germany, but the only way I could get there was through america, which was huge, and they had a huge army, so I couldn't do it because i had sneak attacked egypt 2000 years ago...

So the real moral of the story is explained with two smily pictures: :nuke: :egypt:

Thanks Sman, I kept trying to remove it from my active agreements, but to no avail. I thought it had been around 20 turns, but couldn't be sure. I was about to go to war over it (2 cities? good-bye!):D

using the ROP to stage an attack against a strong enemy works really well. I used it to position 3 modern armors, and fortify 1 mech infantry outside of every city in a rival civ with no *****ing. when the time came, their entire civ would have been destroyed in one turn had it not been for the stupid cultural victory i got the turn before i planned invasion. I was on a map where each civ basically had their own continent so using ROP otherwise was pointless.
