Rising Sun

Very cool, I will have to download this. I like how you balanced between history and gameplay in ways a lot of other scenarios shy away from. Ususally a scenario forsakes one for the other, but this doesn't seem that way at all. It's certainly unique in approach.

I just posted version 1.3.

Thanks for the comments!

From your screen shot of North Africa I see that Egypt is now reasonably matched by the French in the west, Carthage (and Rome) in the north, Persia in the east, Arabia along the Horn of Africa, and the Zulus in the south (even though you didn't have contact with them yet). I did play with the thought of giving the French a city (Saigon) in South East Asia, but maybe that would be too much. :)
I am still curious about America. Are the Iroquois doing too badly compared to the Americans, and are the Spanish having too easy a time in the south, despite that I added another Aztec city?

I am glad you like the concept! I tried to make a scenario that I would want to play myself. I figured that there has to be someone else who would have a similar taste. :) If you try it out and have some comments, please post!

The Americans are doing really well. They expand really fast and get loads of good towns. The Iroquois and the Aztecs not so good. The aztecs seem to be a bit passive but the spanish are not doing so specially well anyway. The iroquois have the problem that there are too many mountains in their territory. I started a war and got the iroquois to attack the americans and basically they lost badly. The other continents seem to be more balanced.

great scenario anyhow!!

Thanks for the comment! In version 1.33 I have reduced the American starting population and removed a Warrior. I don't think this will change much though, since their key to success is probably a combination of a good starting location and their Expansionist and Industrious traits. Later, they may have problems finding rubber and aluminum. If you want to fight them, however, maybe you'd better do it yourself rather than just letting the Iroquois do the dirty work? :p Besides, it kind of makes sense that the Americans won...

If the Aztecs can, at least for some time, hold off the small but rapidly expanding Spanish territory in South America, I think that is not so bad either. But then, I am not Spanish. :)

In this version the animation for Medieval infantry changes in the industrial era. This unit has the same attack as a rifleman, but it looks a little silly when riflemen are defeated by guys swinging their flails. Maybe I will do the same for longbowmen later.

Make sure to download the updated unit packs!

I think the American setup is about perfect, to be honest. The other civs help as speedbumps in the early game, while America still manages to pull off impressive later-age advancements through war and their own industrial power.

The constant upgrades keep making the game feel more balanced, I really like it. I just grabbed 1.36 now. If I had the programs and webspace to take screenshots for my latest game I would, to try to attract more interest. Perhaps someone else can get some more recent ones. Good job Pawel. :goodjob:

Thanks! I think that even if only you enjoyed the scernario, it was worth the effort! :) Still, I hoped that by including a mod-only file for play on random maps, it might appeal even to those that do not like the scenario itself. After all, the mod is very much like standard civ - only better! ;)

P.S. If you want to make screenshots, just press print screen, open a program like MS Paint, and paste... You can then upload the file using the 'Upload File' link at the bottom of the page. Just don't make it too large, because then the page will never finish loading. :)

My best suggestion right now would be to find a way to be able to get a install pack with less files. Why isn't BeBro's unit in one of the files yet? Just a minor nitpick though, downloading them all now. :D

I have already tried to remove, for instance, duplicate sound files, and I think that it will be difficult to reduce the size of the unit packs further. I have tried, however, not to change them too frequently so that not all need to be downloaded with every new version. The next version (1.4), to be released in september, will be based on the 1.27f patch where the paradrop animation bug is supposed to be fixed. It will include a few new units, such as merchant ships, and have some other small changes including that the Explorer will be a A/D/M 1.0.2 unit that can attack but also be captured!

I never got the 1.27f patch to work properly with my version of PTW, and now that I have bought Conquests (C3C), version 2.0 of Rising Sun will be made to require this only. This implies a few changes since some of the features of the Rising Sun are already in C3C, and some of the WWII units that came with PTW are no longer available. The first release of the new version may be expected in December.
