RK-06: SGOTM3 Practice (Warlords)

What RK said ... the point we are not discussing strategy in this practice SG ...

I agree discussing is a lot more important than just raing through the game ... but this is a practice game. I don't think RK even plan to finish it. The idea is to get some experience on how a crowded 17 civs on a standard map (thank god its not tiny or duel!) would open up strategy avenues that are different of your other typical games.

When you have time to play, just log on, check to see if anyone is playing, and then post a got it, and off you go to play. Why would a 3 hrs from-got-it-to-report rule deter anyone from playing unless in the first place he/she is not very interested in / enthusiastic about this game?

I'm keeping a text file of the other "Secret Plans" in a text file offline. As for the strategy/observations already on the thread, consider it as my gift to the "competition".

Hey Greyfox, didn't realize you lived in Singapore so we're almost on the same time zone.

And finally, game ends on December 1 whether we finish it or not, so we can start on the actual SGOTM.

just one comment:

Well I just think if someone is pressured for 3 hour turnaround it might be less interesting. What if they got it and 2 days nothing too which isn't desired either oh well let's just play and like you say I am sure the players will play. Playing isn't so hard it's writing/typing the report which we don't have to do.

Why did you think I b!tched about the swap-me-up-at-1AM-and-bump-me-at-10AM episode? ;) I used to put my location as "Singapore", but figured most playersI played with knew that by now, so I replaced it with something more fitting to my avatar.

@Cosmic: so, is that a got-it? :mischief: ... nah, just kidding, I know it's not.

How's this Robo Kai "got it" playing now........

First of all, forgive the grumpy greyfox, but:

- any reason why my recommendation of having the scout meet up with the galley was blatantly ignored?

- why is rostov more important than the iron-elephant city? Even if the player feel that it is important to establish a city in the southern island to gain us a foothold instead of conceding it to Cyrus, I would have moved rostov east to claim the rice iron site, instead of the 3 food resources site.

Enough of being grumpy:

We are deemed one of the most advanced among the 18 civs ...

That's great!

Afterwhich is a series of uncovering who are among the 17 rivals:

First Louis:

sgotm3P-BC0220-louis.jpg

Traded to get montheism for OR, which I revolted:

sgotm3p-BC0175-or.jpg

Then Sally:

sgotm3P-BC0190-sally.jpg

And ... *drumroll* ... Izzy, who hated us to her guts (if she got one) even before we met her:

sgotm3p-BC0190-izzy.jpg

Traded for polythesim in our push for Literature (TGL):

sgotm3p-BC0160-alex-trade.jpg

Met KK ... no wait, they have a faceoff, this face now belongs to QSH:

sgotm3p-BC0100-QSH.jpg

And then I meet the strangest person of all ....

sgotm3p-BC0100-AC.jpg

Hmm ... shouldn't it be the salad man instead? AC wasn't in Vanilla Civ, so he shouldn't be in SGOTM3.

I obliged to GK:

sgotm3p-BC0070-GK-cancel-trade.jpg

met HC:

sgotm3p-BC0010-HC.jpg

and this is the reason why I recommended scout to be loaded on the galley ... well, they go our chance of popping CoL ...

sgotm3p-AD0020-hut.jpg

Rostov is not producing any culture, but here comes the resuce. The axe to the east is to go kill the hut protector.

sgotm3p-AD0050-rostov.jpg

Settler ready: I still recommend the iron-phant city .. we need the ivory, and we need the WE, and we need iron. There is a seafood resource for decent growth ... don't understand why the previous player think it is an unworthy site. But wait for the archer to be produced before heading off, or better still, you can pull an archer from St Pete.

sgotm3p-AD0050-moscow.jpg

Notice my trend of diplomatic strategy is to follow a simply rule: oblige to our taoist brothers, and say nay to those who are annoyed with us already.

BTW, anybody knows how to add custom log entries (i.e. user comments) to the autolog file for the HoF mod?

I just played but that's ok don't worry about it.
Also:
- why is rostov more important than the iron-elephant city? Even if the player feel that it is important to establish a city in the southern island to gain us a foothold instead of conceding it to Cyrus, I would have moved rostov east to claim the rice iron site, instead of the 3 food resources site.

I so agree why didn't we settle on the iron/phant island???

Again doing good tech wise. I would play from your save but have to go now.

Gave me a chance to use autologger since I don't use it much. We did the same play getting another settler but I went for COL however was he haw and humming on construction.

Sorry I didn't understand the scout-galley thing. I thought the scout was was to explore the island.

And as for Rostov, well...
1. consider it a :smoke: from me
2. I didn't think the phant site was too good immediately because it was full of jungle and we don't have enough extra workers
3. maybe I overestimated automatic relgious spread
4. finally I didn't think we didn't immediately needed iron since we had bronze

Yeah wait and see what happens if you smoke in the official SGOTM. Make you do Russians dance for 24 hours and eat caviar. Hey that aint so bad if there is some of those nice blonde Russian babes too and some Vodka. Nice eastern European food and that would be perfect.

Next day find yourself in Siberia. (but with global warming probably not so bad there anymore like Canadian Arctic) Been as far north as Churchill, Manitoba where the polar bears run free and people eat Bear and Moose meat. mmmmm Good......

@Greyfox Minneapolis can be pretty cold in March very much like a Canadian winter, although Montreal can be brutal too. Vancouver rarely gets a lot of snow and tends to be mild.

Coldest spot in Canada is Winnipeg. Corner of Portage and Main they have tracked windchills there as low as -60 or something crazy like that. But we don't get them as bad anymore like today here in November its 12 celcius which is unusually mild for here. (normally start to have snow by now and averages of -1 to -5 celcius.) Next week supposed to go to 17 celcius which is just bizarre. Ok now tell me global warming isn't kicking in.

@Just to give you an idea Shanghai is 10N and we are 43N and it's just as warm here as there. Personally I prefer the colder weather feels more Canadian.

Ok sorry to be off topic but just wanted to carry on the conversation of the coldest visit. So who's going to grab it now.

BTW the SGOTM thread is open.

Ok, that took a while. I did say in 3 hours, but as you may know the forum underwent some... downtime.

Turn 172:
Research: construction -> Compass

Turn 173:
Meet the technologically backward Mansa Musa.
Trade his Currency for Monarchy + Literature

Turn 175:
Yaroslavl' established at Crab+Elephants site

Sell Drama to as many civs as possible (doesn't get worst enemy modifier with Taoist allies)
Trade Mansa Drama + 540 gold for Code of Laws

Turn 178:

Great Lib: 30 turns :(
Forge in Moscow: 23 turns
Civil Service: 2 turns

Notes:
*Cyrus is willing to trade Feudalism, but for the losing deal of Philo + (our) 250 gold. Didn't go through with it. Cyrus also has 490 gold but we have nothing good to sell him (he doesn't have Compass but I'm not doing that).
*No one has Philosophy except us. No one has Compass except us and Victoria.
*We should probably sell Construction to Genghis to improve relations as well as get his gold.
*We have 292 gold, going 90% research and -14gpt.
*I think we should send Alex, GK and Cyrus some missionaries. Alex is especially in danger of converting out of Taoism since he only has 1 city with the Tao in it.
