RK-06: SGOTM3 Practice (Warlords)

Autolog got eaten up, sorry. At least I keep a highlight reel...

Highlights:
Mansa declares on Alex
Settle Yekaterinburg on "Production City" site, start Work Boat.
Education is in, start Liberalism (Cyrus has Philo, I wouldn't risk delaying Lib)
Get Optics from Saladin for our Paper
Get cash from Huayna for our Paper
Washington cancels Open Borders (re-open it later)
Qin opens borders
GK completes Univ. of Sankore
Islam founded (not by us of course)
Taoism spreads to Munich, so...
Bismarck converts to Taoism (and I didn't even have to lift a finger!)
Convert more of Alex's cities to Taoism
Trade our Spices for Vicky's Whale
Get Engineering from Qin for our Philo + 900 gold
Sell more techs to recover gold
Win Liberalism, I pick Nationalism as free tech
(why not Astronomy? Sorry, I still want to continue abusing the Colossus)
HC has Astronomy over us. Everyone else is backward.

And finally:

We get first AI to Friendly. It's Alex the psycho. We can pay him to war with almost anyone now, after his war with Mansa is over that is.

This is a "got it" and hopefully Greyfox is sleeping since it's that time in Singapore. Will play right now with my tea.

We are very much ahead science wise but military wise we need some more. This turn was mostly a builder/tech turn and settled another city since we are running out of room. Speaking of which maybe get Alex and us into war with Hatty. Let's pick on the strong one since well basically nobody really likes her. We did get economics first revolted to free market and got the GM. He is sitting in Moscow and would probably be good for gold to keep us at 100% science. I did sell a bunch of obsolete techs to keep our cashflow going and Free Market did bring down our in the red at 100%.

We are researching constitution right now. Have started a few missionaries since our city in the south next to Cyrus needs to be converted and Hatty is spawning pretty good. If we go for chemistry next we can use Grennies on her. Just one problem not many production cities so we should get them building military soon if that's the route we are going or just hanging in there for a diplomatic win which at this point may seem likely. I just think we need to curb Hatty's appetite and get our friends in on it.

Forgot to mention we did get a GS too and he built an academy in Novgorod. We might think about caravels too and maybe send GM to Athens for some good gold. I avoided Astro for now but I don't think we should hold off too much longer. I don't like having a weak navy in a sea based game. If we go for chemistry next and trade for Astro we will have the needed frigates to guard our shores. Better to sink a galleon with troops then letting them land.

I am surprised at our tech prowess which only tells me the AI sucks at this type of map as I always play fractal/continental on SP games and that's where the AI excels right now. Give them a lot of land and they go crazy give them a lot of water and they stagnate.

Since we have Gunpowder and P.Press we could (= "it's an option to") go straight to Rifles. Chemistry is fine, although Rifles tend to do better against low-tech units than Grens. We don't have horses (yet) so Cossacks aren't an option, sadly.

Rep. Parts (or Constitution) can be easily traded for Astro anyway, and we can go Chemistry next after Rifling for the Frigates.

Not a pickup, who else wants in?

Didn't I tell you to leave those native plants alone. Sheesh only if you would share already. Have you forgotten my good friend that we have horses in Novogorod (always spell that wrong) and is why I settled there first for the mighty, mighty, mighty, mighty, mighty Cossacks. They still rock already and only lost a bit of strength but still eat cavs for breakfast and tear up everything else. Hey we just need MT and we can go after Hatty.

Actually I haven't been doing the native plants, but my right eye is sorta impaired right now because some paint particles from an old wall got into it and just yesterday got an opthalmologist to remove it for me.

Crud! I've been looking for horses in the "Newer Cities"! I stand heavily corrected and should've looked harder for the horses in the "Older Cities".

Hmm, I also noticed that A.Caesar is on the map. He's definitely not in Vanilla  so that's a blunder on my part.

We should keep heavy culture there though just in case old Bismarck decides to culture bomb it. It is are only source of horses so maybe building knights whilst we head for MT would be wise.

Crud, Yakutsk's placement is unfortunate, no thanks to that other city by... is that Alex/Greece's colors?

So that makes... current plans for this game:
0. Research to gain tech lead military-wise (next: Military Tradition)
1. Knights->Cossacks building
2. Possible future invasion of Egypt by us (+ Greece?)
3. Send GMerchant to Athens for $$$
4. Culture builds in Novgorod
5. Attempt to pick up Astronomy from Huayna for our Constitution (maybe after we can't get any further researching techs without passing Astro or once we need Frigates)

I have an evil but risky plan. Research Chemistry, then give it to everyone once someone gets Rep. Parts. Sure they will have Grenadiers and Frigates, but far less Riflemen which will make Cossacks almost unstoppable.

Still not a got-it. Waiting for intrepid players to take the game.

A totally quiet turnset ... just keep pressing enter.

A couple of notes though:

- we have no navy to speak of, and this is an archipelago map. Wehnwe go to war, we will get pillage like mad with not a thing we can do abt it. Thus, i started a few ships build

- Taoist is so widespread and we yet have a shrine??? suggest building temples and starta priest or two.

HC is such a dick ...

I burnt the merchant for constitution and revolt to representation.

I have also learnt us replaceable parts ... now starting on chemistry for frigates ... err... but do we need astronomy for frigates? :smoke:

Did you burn the GM for 3 turns left on constitution? mmmmm I think I would have used him to bring to Athens and get some moola. Ok me confused who left the sign about the five resources as it gave me the impression we should settle there. In hindsight I don't like the spot and Robo seems to concur. Only thing I do like about it, it gives us a second source of iron which is always good. We certainly do need frigates and lots of them. Have been holding off on Astronomy for Colossus but if we get a shrine then we won't need it anyways. On more thing that city in the south near Cyrus also needs Taoism too.

who planted that 5 resources grab sign? That is one of the worst city ... it can never grow if it is gonna use any of the resources, and without working on resources, it can only grow to 7 (number of ocean / coastal tiles in its BFC, IIRC).

Yes, I burnt that GM. I would have settled him though, but I assumed that's what we want since coincidence have it that the GM is gonna lightbulb constitution and we are learning constitution. A :smoke: from me, definitely warrant a free 3 days 2 night stay for me in the woodshed.

Although its only 3 turns as you see, the GM is actually contributing 1500 beakers. Now, Athens isn't that far away, (and we don't have any ships to ferry him, and I hate having GPeople sitting around idling) it will only give us roughly the same amount in gold.

But on hind sight, I should have settled him in Petersburg.

Greyfox I guess I'll have to join you in the woodshed for settling that silly city. ARGH!!!! I don't know why I didn't question it. I would have settled closer to Moscow but that Cyrus grabbed it.

Anybody going to take it?

So far Robo, Greyfox have been taking it the most and Rem/Cosmic played once so what about the rest?

They gone! I am/willBe up in 3 SG's and a G-Major, so this is not a got it.

To answer the question about Frigates, yes we need Astronomy (along with Chemistry) to build Frigates. Which means losing the Colossus, our tech lead, and our pride.

Getting late here but if nobody takes it by tomorrow I'll give it a go. Will trade for Astronomy until the last minute to keep our advantage. I do think MT would be good too. Hopefully one of the other players wants to give a go. Now Furrie should have been back today???

EDIT: doesn't corporation help with that too with the extra trade routes??

I planted the sign. It wasnt meant as a high priority city or even a good city.

The main goal was, like the sign says, to grab 5 resources for own use and trading. Not to grow a big powerful city.

I looked at the save. No time to play, I still have to brood after the catastrophe of RK-05... ...

I see that we can trade a lot of backward techs for Washington's Astronomy. Take it now before someone backfills him!

I'm back, yet, please skip me an otherround pls, i'm just up in 2 other SG's, so i'd like to those 2 with tnough time.
But indeed, i'm very much back in action :)
