Well, I hope someone apreciated my joke. But in any case, I think they will be cool in terms of gameplay- but they do sound kind of weak. So the substance is good, but the style seems lacking. Although it occurs to me that if we do a bit of story telling we can justify such things to ourselves. For instance, one could justfiy rock 'n' roll as a wonder of cultural diversity. After all, the state did have to solve many problems the whole civil rights era ect. until our musical styles can be truly blended. So, maybe if someone just mods this one to call it civil rights, but leaves the effect of produceing music that would be cool. (Then you could imagen the CDs as rock, rap, regae, or any friggian thing you want.) Of course this is all retroactive bs. But still I think they will funtion well.

Its the same as The Art of War in Civ3... TAOW is a book, not a place...

The addition of Hollywood is something I don't mind having in CIV. I agree with those here that have said that Hollywood has certainly contributed to the world in terms of media.

However, Rock and Roll and Broadway? I dunno... I live in New York and I doubt the addition of Broadway. And as for Rock and Roll... well, I think that, overall, there is too much American representation in CIV, versus previous games.

I do like the addition of luxury resources that can be exported as a result of building the wonders though. :smug:
Does anyone know if they generate enough to trade with EVERYONE???

How does this work?

Hollywood should increase corruption and raise war weariness.

The Beatles makes even less sense, imo, and, as great as they were, there is a whole lot more to Rock and Roll than John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr

I suppose in Civ terms, Memphis beat Liverpool to R&R by a couple of turns :)

I think I would have liked it more if they spread it out, rather than all three being modern wonders:

Perhaps keep Shakespeare's Theatre, that will be your source of plays, starting in the Medieval era.

After that something like Wagner's Opera House (off the top of my head) to be your Industrial era source of music.

Finally, Hollywood as the modern source of movies.

They are ok, pretty good and creative ideas. They are a nice little feature and I'm exited to find out what they do (ie:maybe increase the chance of building a great entertainer in that city) I'd like to see the wonder movie for them too. Should be pretty interesting.

I voted 'OK'.

They don't fit the idea of what we are used to as wonders but I think I'm getting to like them as wonders and new tradeable resources. At least part of America's strength comes in its ability to export culture, other countries have their strengths too. What other modern wonders are there that haven't been covered? CNN?

That said, I love my wonders and I'd like to see most of the favourites form Civ 3 reinstated. I don't like the tacky 70s Elvis as the modern great artist, but what's done is done.

Rock n' Roll has more or less been the biggest thing in my life since I was six - and musical styles and influences blend in the best forms of music anyway. I'd rather not start a debate about how musical genres are just labels tacked on to help music critics and retailers.

I work at a record label/management company now so I'm hardly going to vote against it as a wonder. Maybe if I worked a little harder instead of posting on CivFanatics, you Aussies would see a lot more independent hits coming out in Australia.

I think they are a great idea. The idea of "generated" resources is brilliant. I can already see the mods now....coal and iron in a city limit allows construction of a steel works. Uranium and fresh water...enriched plutoinum plant! The modding prospects are excellent.

Hollywood - Big Thumbs up. :goodjob:

Rock 'n Roll - Rather see the three "B's" - (Bach, Beethoven and The Beatles! ;) )- mediocre.

Broadway - What were you all thinking?????

Hollywood is marginal.

The other two are absolute rubbish, and i don't know what kind of substances the devs were on when they dreamed this up.
Hollywood isn't such a bad choice. Three modern American musical "wonders" is a bit much for my taste.

I like all of these actually - especially given the apparently increased importance of "culture." It definitely fits the CIV world and has ample support in our "real" one.

Think of the Cold War days and Soviet teenagers coming out 200K strong to see Bon Jovi or even today where countries such as France and Canada are passing laws trying to limit "imports" of non-national movies. Something like 85% of European cinema box office originates from the US today (and even in France it is about 60%)

PS - I do like the guy posting about how Hollywood should increase war-weariness.

I like new wonders. Well, probably exept rock and roll. Broadway and Hollywood make more sense.

Well overall their OK, coz of an interresting late game effect; but although hollywood fits, the two other totally suck.
One big dumb and politically incorrect move for Firaxis, but hey, we can't blame them for being patriotic, can we?
(still won't prevent me from buying the game though :drool::drool: too long to wait :wallbash: )

Doesnt anyone think that in some way tv should have been a wonder of the modern world. They could have gone two ways with it..

The first could have been the first 24 hour news station. This could lead to extra scientists, as the population would know more about the world. At the same time it could cause war warryness in democracys, as people would see the horrors of war. But in totalitarian regimes be used as a propaganda agent.

The second way could be the first tv telecast. The advantage would be a cultural one, as your culture, through tv, would beam around the world. Also it could also increase the happiness of you civilisation as they would be entertained by tv.

Welcome to the forums fellow neophyte.
I think we can all agree that "Television" is a definite wonder. It should probably be included in the game, if it isn't already -- I wonder.

TV is AFAIR a cityimprovment - and no, we can not all agree that TV is a "wonder" - at least I disagree ... ;)

btw - I would give the TV a penalty on science - not a bonus :p
