Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Announces Nominees for 2021 Induction

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame said:
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame offers fans the opportunity to participate in the Induction selection process with the Fan Vote. Today through April 30, fans can vote every day at rockhall.com, or at the Museum in Cleveland. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to select the 2021 Inductees.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame said:
To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Seven out of 16 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, JAY-Z, Mary J. Blige, Fela Kuti, and Dionne Warwick. Chaka Khan was previously nominated both solo and with the band Rufus. If elected, Carole King and Tina Turner will become the second and third female artists inducted twice, following Stevie Nicks’ 2019 election. If Foo Fighters are inducted, Dave Grohl will also become a twice-inducted performer.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame said:
Inductees will be announced in May 2021. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 Induction Ceremony will take place in Cleveland, Ohio this fall.

I think the only two I'll storm the barricades for right now are Tina Turner and Fela Kuti. I love me some Kate Bush, too. I might vote for her just out of personal affection. Iron Maiden, Dionne Warwick, Carole King and New York Dolls are kind of legends. I'm tempted to vote for them on that basis, even though I was never really devoted to them personally.

I only found two I feel worthy of the HoF: Carole King and Dionne Warwick.

Only two up there that I've at least one full album's familiarity with are Kate Bush and the Go-Go's, but those albums were good so I voted for them.

Padded out the rest of my votes with Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner.

None of the Above.
If Dione Warwick is a contender then The Stranglers also deserve to be in it for their superior version of Walk on By.

^^^ That was just a terrible rendition of a fabulous song. 0 points.

Bah!
Dione Warwick won the Kleenex American Hero Award in 1987. Cry me a river if she doesn't get into the HoF. :P

I can't take the poll seriously when it ignores so many European megastars, like The BossHoss.

The Gogos aren't in it already?! First (1) all-girl rock&roll band, who (2) played their own instruments and (3) wrote their own songs. What more do you want? [pissed]

I was thinking about Chaka Khan myself, but then I realized I mostly listen to Rufus and not her solo stuff. And of course I got bludgeoned over the head with "I Feel For You" along with everybody else in 1984, and I'm still carrying a grudge.

If I were to make a list of, let's say, 50 Funk Songs You Must Ingest, this would 100% be on the list. Might even be in the top 20.

It is both shocking and unsurprising how little-known Fanny is. I myself only heard them last year, and finding new music has been a full-time hobby of mine for the last ~35 years. Fans of American blues-rock and "classic rock" have been swindled.

[...]groups such as the Go-Go's, the Bangles and the Runaways [have] cited Fanny as a key influence.
Wikipedia said:
David Bowie sent the group a letter admiring their work and invited the band to a post-show party[...] Fanny toured worldwide, opening for Slade, Jethro Tull and Humble Pie, gaining widespread popularity in the United Kingdom. A 1971 article in Sounds remarked that the group "seems that they are the support group to everyone these days". The group made several live television appearances during tours, including The Sonny and Cher Show, American Bandstand, The Old Grey Whistle Test and Beat-Club.

They were extraordinary: they wrote everything, they played like motherf***ers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody's ever mentioned them.

The notation for the YouTube vid below says Fanny were "the third [all-women rock band] to sign with a major label (after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and the Pleasure Seekers), and the first to release an album on a major label (in 1970)" but doesn't cite a source.

(And for those interested in such things, not only are they all women, they're queer and two of them are non-White.)

This is my favorite song of theirs. The singer/keyboardist and the drummer practically take their instruments apart.

That info on Fanny looks to be directly taken from their wikipedia entry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_(band)

You can have this level of outrage for most of that list.

I have no recollection of them from the 70s and I was very into music at the time. After listening to the two tracks posted here, I think that they were just out classed/overshadowed by the competition.

Of course. The HoF is for sustained top class efforts and they definitely aren't in the same league as the others in Egon's list.

Just to clarify, the names posted in the poll above are this year's official Hall of Fame ballot, not a list I chose myself.
