Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Announces Nominees for 2021 Induction

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame offers fans the opportunity to participate in the Induction selection process with the Fan Vote. Today through April 30, fans can vote every day at rockhall.com, or at the Museum in Cleveland. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to select the 2021 Inductees.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Seven out of 16 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, JAY-Z, Mary J. Blige, Fela Kuti, and Dionne Warwick. Chaka Khan was previously nominated both solo and with the band Rufus. If elected, Carole King and Tina Turner will become the second and third female artists inducted twice, following Stevie Nicks’ 2019 election. If Foo Fighters are inducted, Dave Grohl will also become a twice-inducted performer.

Inductees will be announced in May 2021. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 Induction Ceremony will take place in Cleveland, Ohio this fall.

I think the only two I'll storm the barricades for right now are Tina Turner and Fela Kuti. I love me some Kate Bush, too. I might vote for her just out of personal affection. Iron Maiden, Dionne Warwick, Carole King and New York Dolls are kind of legends. I'm tempted to vote for them on that basis, even though I was never really devoted to them personally.

I was thinking about Chaka Khan myself, but then I realized I mostly listen to Rufus and not her solo stuff. And of course I got bludgeoned over the head with "I Feel For You" along with everybody else in 1984, and I'm still carrying a grudge.

If I were to make a list of, let's say, 50 Funk Songs You Must Ingest, this would 100% be on the list. Might even be in the top 20.

It is both shocking and unsurprising how little-known Fanny is. I myself only heard them last year, and finding new music has been a full-time hobby of mine for the last ~35 years. Fans of American blues-rock and "classic rock" have been swindled.

I have no recollection of them from the 70s and I was very into music at the time. After listening to the two tracks posted here, I think that they were just out classed/overshadowed by the competition.
